Rethreading shift stick

Installing a 350z shiftkn0b on my 02’ 6 speed. The previous owner did a literal hackjob to shorten the stick in such a way that there is no threads and the stock **** was simply jammed on with a bunch of gunk. Rethreading is pretty straight forward in itself, m10x1.25 thread pitch, but my concern is that the twisting force needed will cause damage to either the shifting mechanism or the transmission itself.

Is it safe to thread the stick while its still installed? Or would i need to remove it to prevent damage? Can the stick itself be removed or does the entire mechanism have to come out? Tried searching on this stuff but all my results pertain to the kn0b itself

Found the answer to my own questions. Not sure if id damage anything if I did the threading while in the car, but to play it safe ill just remove the shifter assembly.

Pretty clear outline of how that is removed, figured id drop the link for anyone else who is curious.
