2000 Maxima GLE - Overheated V6 and Replace Thermostat!

Greetings good people! GEN-5 reporting in!

On Tuesday and during my lunch break at the Kennedy Space Center, I drove out to get a hot meal and doing so, I realized that I no longer had Cold Air Condition (AC) then, it was when I looked UP at my instrument cluster with the Engine Temperature heading to that really HOT area (No wonder AC was not working). I stopped at a Circle-K at Courtney Parkway and Hall Road and allowed the Engine to cool off. While there, I purchased a drink and two jugs of Anti-Freeze (50/50) and went to work and filled up the Radiator as it was almost empty. I limped over (2-miles) at John Ramsey's Alignment and there they Pressure Checked my Cooling System and all pressures held without any leaks and pressure didn't decreased. They checked my Cooling Fans and they turned ON and subsequently they changed the Engine Oil plus Filter. On my way back home the Maxima started once again to increase Engine Temperature so, I activated the HEATER at FULL BLAST and rolled down the two front windows and went steady at 60-MPH for 35 miles to home. Luckily it was overcast and looked like rain but, thankfully it didn't rain while I drove home.

After troubleshooting at home, I noticed that the Engine Thermostat just didn't want to OPEN and reason for the over-heating problem! Went Directly to the nearest NISSAN Dealer on East Colonial Drive (Sutherland Nissan) and purchased a brand new Genuine Nissan Thermostat plus Gasket for my Maxima. I even asked for a 10% discount because years ago, I purchased lots of parts over at Merritt Island and they did give me the discount! All you need is ask! People, out of ALL replacement parts for your car the one most important is your Thermostat and it is super important to purchase Genuine because the Factory one is made for the correct temperature that your Engine needs to maintain per design. Purchasing an AFTER MARKET Thermostat just creates problems down the road because your Engine will never reach the specific temperature per factory specifications! On my way out of the Dealership, I had to pass by the Service personnel and they were all bored and not busy at all so, I asked how much for them to replace my 2000 Maxima's Thermostat and he went to the computer and he answers me $455 BIG ONES (Labor plus Shop supplies)!! What???
Well, you guessed it, I did it myself! The last remining task is to purr some STEEL SEAL inside that Radiator to seal the breached HEAD GASKET! I am just going to keep driving this thing until it can't anymore! LOL!

UPDATE:

Ran the Maxima for 55 minutes and the Temperature Gauge reads nothing beyond 1/2 or below!

Zero leaks, nothing!

I am so glad that I purchased the Genuine Thermostat!

Why didn't you do the other thermostat at the same time?

Hello,

Because the water control valve (WCV) only effects the heater core. It allows your climate control to operate correctly and has nothing to do with engine cooling.
I didn't because I limped back home (35 miles) using the Heater at Full Blast so, the WCV worked.

Thank you!

I am having 2nd thoughts in using any fast snake oil additives at this present time because I have been reading too much failures and these liquids causing just too many other issues.

I have contacted a Certified AAA Repair shop and they are now looking for a replacement Engine for me with options.

Have you considered contacting Nisformance and have a year model 2016+ Engine adapted and installed? You will have to drive it to North Carolina.

Just the fact that I need to transport my vehicle to North Carolina will be a NO GO for me.
I looked at that place you recommended and its more of a Gear Head place for those that have perhaps endless $$$ itching in their pocket or don't know what else to spend it on.

I am not looking for anything to drag strip, just keep it pretty much (boring) stock and keep it on the road.

It has nothing to do with the heater. The FSM shows how coolant is directed though the block and back to the radiator through the water control valve.

Why thank you for those details!

I stand corrected!
