What's up guys. Soooooo I was thinking, I want to supercharge my Maxima. I know there's a ton of info here, but a lot of it is dated. Since it's now the future, and we have flying cars and interstellar travel, can we collab on this and get this started with the most current tech?
It's been a while for me on the forum, so for those who are new or don't remember, bone stock, all-motor 2003 SE 4AT with a Gen 7 engine. Been running like a top ever since the swap in 2019. Oil changes every 5k. 172k on the car, 96k on the motor.
I would need to start with a parts list. Once the hardware is sorted and secured, I'll continue the thread with the installation, and finally tuning and performance numbers.
Criteria I'd like to meet would be that the factory exhaust remain as silent as it currently is. If we need to do exhaust mods, that's fine, so long as the final db level out the pipes remains the same. Second, I don't mind new equipment, but if at all possible, I'd like to retrofit with whatever is necessary from other vehicle makes (e.g. Mitsu blower)
making power and keeping it quiet would be an interesting build. I do miss having the quietness of the stock exhaust but the stock exhaust piping seems like it's sized for a 4 banger. I guess it was really needed to keep the noise down. right now I'm running 3" exhaust and I went with a Thrush turbo muffler thinking it would keep the db close to stock but it didn't. I'm thinking of trying Walker quiet flow next..
ever think of ditching the 4AT? I never realized how horrible the 4AT was until I drove my friend's wife's low mileage I35 that they bring to me for repairs every once in a while. would be nice if there was a better auto transmission we could use. I know Toyota started using 6 speed autos when they started using the 3.5's. even my moms Sienna mini van with the 3.5 has a 6 speed auto..

Did you check out the various Ripp SC builds on my4dsc.com? There isn't too many specifics there, many posted more details in FB groups though.
There isn't much you can to to the exhaust and keep it the same volume. My old 3.5 Altima had a Raceline Y and stock everything else. That only removes the rear cat so the sound and tone was very close to stock. When the front cats started to fail, I removed them temporarily. The exhaust note became much deeper and a bit louder. Headers would be louder due to the thinner material of the tubing.
My 98 had various exhausts, loudest (and my least fav) was Warpspeed Y, Stillen B, and Dynomax super turbo. Somewhere in the middle was Cattman headers, stillen b, A33 muffler, it was relatively quiet though not a pleasant tone, lots of gurgling and rasp. My favorite tone was a straight through muffler with everything else stock. The tone was deep and smooth. It sounded about the same as a friends Greddy catback.
My 99 has a Stillen V1 SC and the stock exhaust. The V1 is ridiculously loud on it's own. I don't need to make it louder.
my first go at exhaust was an ebay system a few weeks after i put in the 4th gen fed spec exhaust manifolds and Warpspeed Y ( main cat was already gutted) it was unbearably loud, I had changed the rear muffler on it the same day to an aftermarket 05-06 G35 replacement muffler i had already purchased , 2.5" inlet and RASPY . I remember it was the same day I drove to Tampa to get an SE-R Spec V donor tranny for the H-LSD. i picked up the tranny and went straight to a muffler shop nearby. I mainly got the ebay exhaust because it was advertised to have 2.5" piping which ended up being 2.25, really nice bends though and thick pipes.

i like quite as well. i have gutted precats, warpspeed y-pipe, and stock to the back. its super quiet considering but does have a bolder tone from the gutted cats and warpspeed y-pipe

i think that muffler choice has the most impact on sound. does the stock muffler flow good?
friend of mine has a straight piped accord wagon with headers, glass pack resonator, and twin loop muffler and to my surprise it's pretty quiet
I don't know how well the flow is but the car runs pretty damn hard. At some point I'll get to the track and do a few runs with the stock muffler and my borla.
Nisformance headers, 2.5" piping to the stock muffler.
Quiet as stock.
Wow, in that case, I'll look into those headers. Any way you can post a quick sound vid on YouTube?
I love my 4AT, I have no desire to swap transmissions. If I could bolt up a 6 speed automatic though, I would definitely have one sitting in my garage. A 6AT with a blown 7th gen motor in a 5th gen? Now we're talking!
I don't have a FB account. Or any other social media account for that matter, on purpose. So I don't get any of that info. And I'm not sad about it. This forum is just fine for me, even as inactive as it is. I'm in no hurry, but would like to get started on this as soon as possible. I have two other sedans and a Ducati to get me around while the gen5 is down.

Haven't been on that site in a while, thanks for reminding me! I'll check out those builds for ideas. I really do need the silence of the factory system, however. All I want to hear is the SC whine and a BOV.
