Taillight idea

My wife was driving the Maxima last night, and I was behind her in another car. At every turn I noticed the bright, and I mean BRIGHT, orange turn signal. Almost annoying to the car behind you. I was thinking this morning about changing the bottom lens to red, and the bulb to clear, so the lens looks like one red circle, and flashes red instead of bright orange. It might also be cool if you could get the bottom to light up with the tailights, so that when the lights are on you have a whole red circle, instead of just the top half circle. Whaddya think?

you can do this. the way I think it could be done is you would have to replace the socket that holds the turn signal bulb to a dual purpose bulb, kinda like the front orange bulb next to the headlight. (1157) then cut the clear part out and replace it with red. then attach the parking lights to the duel purpose bulb and Waalaaa, U have parking lights and turnsignals when U use them. Might need relays just incase its not enough current..

Ali, so you'd have to splice into the current taillight wiring and run that to the taillight portion of your new dual purpose socket & bulb? Are there separate wires for each function - taillight, brake light, turn signal? I'm not sure I want to tackle the wiring myself, do you think an auto electronics dealer could do it without hacking it up? As far as making the clear lens red, I was thinking about just using a translucent red adhesive vinyl and sticking it on the outside of the lens. That way if I don't like it, it's easy enough to undo. Can one of you photoshop guys simulate what I'm talking about with the lens?

I havn't done it myself but I know how it would be done. The top bulb is Parkinglight/Break light. the bottom is only turn signal. You would use the same socket as the parkinglight/break light and switch it with the single turnsignal socket and then tap into the wires of the breaklight. as far as the Red and clear part. Ask some of the 4th Gen guys, they've cut out the Red or orange and replaced with other colors.

I was thinking the same thing only different
The turn signal: reverse...just use clear bulb and switch wiring
Upper tail light: Turn signal same bulb (On constanly until turning...then blinks)
The reverse: Make this the brake with red bulb (obviously)
Is this crazy or can it be done?
Another idea:
Make the reverse the brakes....turn signal stays the same with a red bulb. The turn signal with a clear bulb can be the reverse.

My idea:
I have a set of red taillamps from my GXE (which now has SE taillamps)...so, i was thinking of hacking them apart. I was thinking of having the brake (upper portion) turned 90 degrees so the upper portion is on the outside-most of the rear, and the turn signal would be on the inside-most. Aka, instead of having them horizontal, have them vertical, with the brake lamp portion on the outside.
I'll do some photoshopping to get an idea... who knows.

Hey "Yo-it's-ok", thanks for the input. Glad to hear someone else has already done the red turn signal and is happy with the results. I think I'll go ahead with just making the clear lens red and see what happens. If I decide to change bulbs or sockets I'll post my results here. Thanks also to "Pioneer" (Ali) for the tip on checking the 4th gen. board for ideas. Some of them have used a translucent red vinyl or poly from 3M that worked for this project.
