Car stalls randomly!

Hi there! I'm new to this site. Thanks for the opportunity to ask questions! I have a 2000 maxima with 137,000 miles. I recently had a tune up done and 2 broken motor mounts replaced. I paid the mechanic and drove away..got about 100 ft down the road and my car stalled. It started back up..I drove to the next red light, stopped and it stalled again. I limped it back to the mechanic with my foot constantly on the gas. He found no problems with the car..even after it stalled on him! He sent the car to an electrician and he also couldn't find anything wrong that would cause it to stall. No lights come on on the dash..nothing shows on a diagnostic machine. I sent the ECU out to a place in Illinois to have that checked and nothing is wrong with it. My mechanic is at a loss as to what it could be. It stalls at random times..sometimes when I hit a bump, slow down for a stop sign, or just slow down. Can anyone give me a clue as to what to check or replace? A sensor maybe? Thank you in advance!

Had a similar issue with 97 SE, fixed it by adding additional groundwire to the MAS sensor. Faulty Cam Position Sensors could also cause stalling.

Finally fixed stalling issue by grounding MAF sensor - Maxima Forums

what made you get a tune up. was the engine stalling prior to the work being performed.

find a new mechanic. if he sent it to an "electrician" he probably couldnt diagnose his way out of a wet paper bag.

monitor data. specifically fuel trims and MAF. is it stalling like you turned the key off or does it kinda stumble out? sounds like the latter as you were able to keep it running with throttle. this would likely eliminate a crank sensor issue and lean more towards fuel trim/controls.
he shouldnt have touched ANYTHING that would cause a problem on a de-k for spark plugs. the only thing you need to remove for access is the front coil cover, engine beauty cover (if you have one), and 6 ignition coils. if he doesnt know this and attempted to pull the intake like an 02+ theres a whole world of stuff he could have screwed up.

I got a tune up because the mechanic said it was running very rough..I thought that maybe what broke the motor mounts. Anyway..tried grounding the maf sensor. Starts but still stalls idling. Working on replacing the maf sensor now.

Ok..replaced the maf sensor and it's still stalling. Idles great in my driveway..but stalls when driving. Any suggestions? I'm thinking cam shaft sensors? Or should I just throw a FOR SALE sign in it!?!

What capabilities do you have to look into things yourself? Meaning, do you have or do you have access to an appropriate scan-tool?

If not, perhaps a trip to your local Advance Auto, Auto Zone or Oreilly’s might be in order to allow them do a quick (and free) DTC scan. Based on what you’ve stated you’ve been through already, your mechanic’s and your electrician’s view points seem suspect.

That being said, stored DTCs, if any, would be helpful.

In addition to the opinions already provided, your symptoms seem similar to those of a possibly failing or maladjusted throttle position sensor.

How does your exhaust smell? Raw gasoliney at all? A failing injector also comes to mind.

That Crank Shaft Position sensor, our cars are sensitive to electronics. If you are buying the parts, get the Hitachi brand for its the most reliable one.

first guess is the 3x CPS sesnors, they don't always throw codes. and get worse over time and barely let the car drive.

So, any luck?

My friend just picked up a 2000 LE for me in Vancouver and after driving it the next day he noticed stalling when cold. I wasn't able to go out there and kick the tires in person. Unfortunately, my friend isn't much of a car guy and he was too busy to really take much instruction.

My search results also included intake manifold leaks as one of the probable causes.
