time for another clutch

the other day I left the light pretty hard and when I went to shift into 2nd gear it wouldn't go. luckily i was able to make it home and up the driveway (2 miles) without having to stop.

I've been running the M-PACT06072ST2 for the non HR 350Z/G35 with JWT flywheel in my 02. it sucked for daily driving

after pulling the transmission this morning i see the disc was worn after 38,XXX miles and instead of slippin she was grippin. the disc was stuck to the flywheel when I pulled the pressure plate off.

before this one I used a regular M-Pact clutch kit for the non HR 350Z/G35 and it was decent but the springs wore out quick. it was pulled with 25,000 miles of use when I did the engine swap.

this time around I had better luck with the ACT throw out bearing. the one they have listed for the 85-01 Maxima worked fine, part number RB809.

this is the first time I ever wore a clutch out so I'm wondering if 6 pucks aren't really good for longevity. my car is just a daily street car and i've only dumped the clutch on it 4 or 5 times and my tires aren't anything fancy but i run 245/40 18's.

here are the carnage pics.

oh yeah, I noticed online that Nissan has discontinued the OEM throw-out bearing....

that thing has been hot as ****. what power are you making? if under 400tq a full face clutch should hold up and last a lot longer. puck clutches suck for DD use. wear out far too quickly.

I have 2014 engine with a few mods. only thing I was able to reuse when I did the swap was better flowing 4th gen fed spec exhaust manifolds, 4th gen Warpspeed Y, 3" exhaust with Dynomax super turbo muffler, JWT flywheel, under drive main pulley and Nisformance ECU flash. I also have H-LSD from SE-R spec V Sentra. not many bolt ons for the newer engines..

this time I'll be putting in a set of short tube headers I finally found. 4th and 5th gen headers are dam near non existent these days 🫤

I got it all back together and running but to my surprise the clutch pedal feels really soft. the pressure plate is claimed to have 2600 lbs of clamping force but the pedal feels as soft as stock. the last M-Pact kit that I ran ( M-PACT 06072ST2) had a pretty stiff pedal but the pressure plate wasn't their heavy duty pressure plate. I went with the NSK 62TKM3301 full metal release bearing and also got a set of ARP pressure plate bolts. hopefully this set up will last a lot longer than the 6 puck setup I ran last time.

Looks good! Thanks for the info on the OEM throw out bearing and keeping the 5th Gen forum active!

My 01 SE will need need new clutch sometime in the near future, right now it has a Exedy (I think) with an unknown flywheel (possibly OEM) and the combo feels great as far as drivability and no noises. The pedal is bit soft, but I actually prefer it that way. The clutch pedal in my son's 04 G35 feels much stiffer.

I don't mind the soft pedal It just makes me wonder how much clamping force it actually has. but at least it will be easier to teach my kids how to drive it. the old clutch setup wore out my son's leg, plus it was a 6 puck which made it harder to for them. I didn't even like how grabby it was. it was the M-PACT 06072ST2
