crank no start
crank no start
Hi all,
Been having problems with starting the car just the last few day/week. First incident was maybe 6 days ago, was doing a little spirited driving and impressed with power up steep 2000 ft local hills, then... it's starts sputtering like no fuel, rev's drop. It seems to bounce off of 4500rpms. Then sputtering like going to die, apply gas to prevent, turn back down hill so not to crash or worse, was able to cruise with engine on downhill. Worried, but thought it was just an one-off anomaly. Next day, drive to run some errands, on way back on freeway after accelerating past 4500 rpms, again bounce down sputtering engine, then shuts downs while going 80mph. Was able to pull off safely...wow. Was able to keep driving another mile or so, but just died about 2 miles from home.
Went back that day, cleaned the MAF and IAT sensors with MAF cleaner let dry~15mins, then replaced. Still no start. Drained battery. Used portable (small lithium ion) jump starter. Drained that after about 10 tries. Smell gas so thinking fuel pressure, pump and filter not factor. @uptownsamcv has stated that he's on original fuel pump and crankshaft position sensor @~340,000 miles. I'm at 138,000, can somewhat rule those possibilities out. Maybe the sensors are too close the engine, engine puts out way too much heat. So I have on order from RockAuto, the 3 camshaft position sensors CPS, Left, Right and Lower all Hitachi.
I know I am going to get heat, for just throwing parts, but do not know how to test voltage on sensors. I can learn, when needed. So maybe test all sensor with: https://www.harborfreight.com/9-func...ty-59410.html?
Did NGK iridiums, coils cleaned dielectric grease, valve covers with gaskets from 2004 L&R w/ RTV in corner, intake manifold gaskets 7 total, 2 lowers and all 5 UIM all in 2014 @94K miles. applied dielectric grease to almost all electrical harnesses/sockets.

I changed my fuel pump a while ago but I'm still on the factory crank position sensor. fuel pump was getting kinda loud before i changed. I gave the old pump to a coworker to try in his Altima and it ran for a day or two.
make sure your crank position sensor is on tight and clean it's mounting surface.
any codes?
try to start it with the MAF disconnected. when my MAF went bad I had a no start and with the MAF off it started but wouldn't rev past 3,000 i think.
