A Nissan dealer is asking $4,991 for a blue 2002 Maxima with 160,000 miles. The exterior and interior are in very good condition. I test drove it, and everything seemed fine. However, the off button on the factory navigation and climate control is broken, so I can’t turn off the A/C. There’s also a check engine light for the O2 sensors, which is common. I offered $3,000, and he lowered the price to $4,000. Do you think it’s a good buy for the price, or is it too much? I might go back later this week.
if the the body and interior is in great condition, $4,000 isn't bad for a 2002 with 160,000 miles. I paid $6,000 for my 02 6 speed with 175,XXX miles back in 2012 and it had bad motor mounts and the throw out bearing went out a month later. I still have it and it's at 368,XXX miles. just put a new clutch in it yesterday.
Beware of the check engine light, it could be a bad catalytic convertor and that is expensive fix $$$. FYI. A 2002 Maxima with the VQ35 DE engine is guaranteed to burn oil.
A Nissan stealership selling their own brand used car with 02 code unresolved? Run, do not walk from this bad deal. You”ll put 1000s into it just to pass emissions. And dealer price for this is about $2500
I have an '01. Bought it it '04 with 117,00 miles on it. It now has 375,000 on the clock. Had an O2 code the day I bought it and I've never fixed it. This doesn't prove anything other than circumstances vary from car to car.
it's over 20 years old, you can't expect it not to need anything if you purchase it.
do expect it to consume oil and check it once a week before you crank it. with these engines you have to wait a while for the oil to settle into the pan before checking it. check it while parked on a level surface also...

it will run much better and use less gas if you fix the 02 sensor ( depends if it’s the primary or secondary)
Pre-purchase checks on these models really come down to maintenance history and rust more than mileage. A thorough inspection saves regrets later. While researching ownership costs, some buyers unwind with https://casinosanalyzer.com/free-slo...e/Book-of-Dead to stay relaxed.
