Aftermarket wheel weight database...

Hello all,

For those considering aftermarket wheels now or in the future, it's best to consider how much the wheels weigh prior to making the purchase. A heavy set of wheels will make a significant impact on your acceleration numbers. Average 17x7.5-8" rims weigh in the 22-25lb. range from what I've seen. I've seen 18x8" rims (from a "good" manufacturer) that weighed 38lbs.!! Forged wheels can be bought that are easily under 20lbs. but are more expensive than cast wheels. Check out this database I just found on the web today for a very complete listing of wheel weights. Both "logo" (Nissan, Acura, Honda, etc.) and aftermarket wheels are included in the database.

damn, thanks, that's exactly what i was looking for as i shop for wheels, now only if there was a tire site like this (even though most tires are about the same)--i'm sure the people here can get a lot of use out of this, maybe it should be a sticky

another to add: i don't know about the 2k-2k1 maxes but the 2k2 maxima se wheels wiegh 25.5 lbs.

Found those SSR's yet?

Btw, how heavy is the tire itself or is just arbitrary?

Actually, performance tires range from 25 - 30+ lbs depending on size. They're pretty heavy. Normal street tires are 22 - 25 lbs depending on size.

Kevin, can you update the wheel weight entry in the FAQ? One link is obsolete and the other one is the old URL location for the one in Scott's (e28fixer) post.

Thanks
