I'm not happy with my mods, on my 2k

OK people, you probally say your crazy, but here is the thing, I bought the car for the quiteness, and of coarse being a family car, but I always wanted to mod my 89 I just never got around to it, so i buy a 2k, found this site, go mod crazy.
Last night we put the Cai in what a fricking pain in the butt, the template was wrong, so now I have a bigger hole than I'm suppose to have, the ur pulley was put in on friday, now the air dosen't work as well, and it sqeaks when I turn the steerring wheel in both directions, noise from the strut bar, and still have noise from sway bar, I do like the sound of the cattback, and exhaust, muffler, just all these little sqeaks are irritating, I already miss the quite ride of the stock max, but with all this said and done I'm still going to put the y pipe on.
I guess if the mods weren't so noises I would be happier, but then again are we ever satisfied with our cars. Bernie

Alot of what you are experiencing is either lack of a quality product or lack of a quality install.

The belt needs adjustment or diff size. The sway bar and strut bar should not make any noise.

Don't worry, you can have a modded Max that rides very nicely without the sqeaks and rattles. Just re-read my first line.

Have fun!!

Maybe you suould appreciate your new car for what it is stock. The car is pretty quick stock, is it worth all that BS just to make it a little quicker

Mark, thank you for your input, everything is quality products top of the line stuff here,(maybe the sway bar because it's addco) the cai was the only install that was done by friends, and it was just the wrong template, thats why I don't understand.

Good point there. I myself only have K&N drop in filter too and the only other mod is the clear bumper lights. I really don't know if it is worth it to even mod very much on the Maxima as i've seen people do all kind of things with there cars and only shave .5 seconds of there 1/4 mile time. That to me is just plain pointless to pay almost $800 to $1000 on all those engine mods to be a only hair quicker than you were stock. I had a friend who had a 96 Mitsu Eclipse GS; now he put on a cold air intake and a full custom exhaust and I raced him in a friend's stock Eclipse GS and wasted him from 0-40. It was only at about 50mph did he start to pass me and when we shut down at 80mph he was only 1 car length ahead. Needless to say he was ****ed. He never saw big gains until he put on a turbo; now he can waste me and almost anybody on this org. except for a select few. Now as far as the suspension mods I say yes get them especially if you like to take corners fast. Anyways just my 2 cents.

I have stayed away from a CAI and Under drive pully.
I have been sticking with simple bolt ons. pop/y-pipe/cat/catback/rsb/fstb/springs etc..

That's why, if my next car is a Max, my first perfomance mod will be SC. No messing around.

.5 seconds in the 1/4 is a big difference.

translate that 0-60

if (I hear) stock 0-60 is around 5.9 sec, and you mod it to get .5 quicker in the 1/4, what will new 0-60 be?

thanks,

Good question I don't know the "equation" to figure that out.

I'd settle for an educated guess... thanks,

I dunno, but 0.5s difference at a 92 mph trap would come out to 4.2 car lengths.

That's a pretty big difference if you're in to racing, but if you just want adequate power to not get run over by SUVs and beat the occasional ricer then it doesn't mean squat.

I think I'm just going to do a K&N drop-in + intake resonator delete on the 99 5spd that I just picked up and call it a day. It's plenty fast for me already and a $400 y-pipe + install just isn't worth it to me. I've got better things to spend money on at this point in my life

Later in life I'd like to tinker with cars a lot more though

Moded the hell out of my '95 ....

... money pit.

You don't get it on trade in. You may lose some warranty items.
You cann't truly brag about beating anybody (Not from a Max is faster than you, because it's not really pure anymore. If you have to mod a car to "beat" another car stock, what does that mean?) track racing not included. A lot of time wasted (when I was doind it, it was fun).

It's fun to do though. So I think all car nuts go through this phase in their life, then just focus on making enough money to buy a car stock that has all the style and performance out of the box, or after a good ticket or so the driving behavior changes

I don't think a few simple low dollar mods count as a "modded car".
