Seems like hood on 2002 Maxima is very soft...
I remember a while back, someone posted about that he made a small dent on the hood when he was closing it. He said that he pushed on the hood with his hands to close it and it left small dent on the hood.
The reason I am asking this, is because I used to own a 2000 SE and I used to open hood alot of times and I never saw that I left any dents on it.
I was working this weekend on my 2002 SE, installing Stillen FSTB from my 2000 SE, which some people say doesn't install on 2002 SE, but it installed perfectly.
Anyways, when I was done with it, I went to close the hood and I did the same thing I always did with 2000 SE, I pushed (not hard with both of my hands seperate from eachother) on the hood to close it.
I looked at the hood after that, and it has a small dent on it now.
I don't think I pushed on that spot, cause it is right above the hatch of the hood. Maybe I did, but I am not sure.
Seems very stange that the hood would make a dent when I was trying to close it. ( what is made of???)
Someone told me that it is better to just drop the hood and it will close by itself.
Another thing might be that it came from the factory like that, or some peps damaged it and the dealership. I am gona try to see if they can fix it.
The dent is prety small, do you guys think it is worth it for me to try to fix it? I know there is some sort of dent removal stuff that should fix it up.

Re: Re: Seems like hood on 2002 Maxima is very soft...
I have always brought the hood down to 0.5 to 1 ft and then dropped it to close it. The hood deflector gets in the way of pushing and it is awkward anyway. Isn't this what you are supposed to do closing the hood? I found sometimes if you push the hood down it doesn't stay closed and it might pop up after you start driving.
Re: Re: Re: Seems like hood on 2002 Maxima is very soft...
Ditto, i use the same technique. Less of a hassle for me, the gravitational pull is sure to close the hood and i don't risk denting anything.
I also have the Carflector but it doesn't get in the way of anything though. If needed i just pull down the hood from the corners.

Re: hmmm
It wasn't in the service yet, car is only a week old.
Well it probably was when they were prepping it for me for delivery.
I am gona call my sales guy and tell him that I saw that dent on the hood, maybe they will fix it for me?

Same thing happened to my 2002 SE. I took delivery of the thing (at night of course) and the next day I noticed the dent where the latch was located. It was about a two inch long, what I'd refer to as a crease that went fore and aft.
I called the dealer and with three days in the shop, they fixed it with no hassle. I'm betting that it was due to the hood being closed to forcefully sometime before delivery. I'm certainly going to baby the thing from now on.
The only other problem that I've had with the hood is a slight bit of flutter on the driver's side. Unfortunately, I was not able to find any adjustment studs that would normally take care of this, guess I'll have to watch it flutter.

out of curiosity, how did they get rid of the dent? do they smooth it out with some type of tool?

Not sure how they fixed, assume that they used some type of shaping tool. I marked the underside of the hood before taking it in to see if they replaced it or just fixed it and sure enough it was fixed (not really expecting replacement).
They repainted the hood, blended the front quarter panels and clearcoated it. All in all, took about three days for them to complete.

wow so they even repainted the hood and everything... *siGh* i don't think i can get any of that done for free. ah well, like i have any time to fix these trivial things on my car...

For people with dents.. try closeing your hood like what the people above said, take it to about .5-1ft, and just drop it, closes it, no problems with your hood.. I wouldnt suggest putting the hood down (not locked in yet) and then pushing the hood into it's "locked" position.
Don't push the hood down. Always drop it. Believe me you want a soft hood. It may dent easily and be a B!tch to replace..... but if it were rigid..... you'd get owned by it in your first head on collision. You'd say bye bye to your head. A hood isn't something you want coming through the front window, or through your head.
I thought they use some sort of dent removal tools.
I think it is called DentWizard. Some guy at the dealership told me that they use it on new cars to get rid of small dents.
I don't think I want the dealer to repaint the hood, cause it might not be as good as it was from the factory. I will ask them what and how they planning to fix it.

Re: I thought they use some sort of dent removal tools.
I still have not fixed the dent on the hood that was when I got the car. Damn dealer is not being very helpfull.
Dealer said that they will try to use DentWizard to remove that dent.
Anybody know anything about DentWizard? Does it work on dents? I want that dent to be fixed, but I am afraid that they will make it even worse.
I am gona call them again tomorrow and schedule a time when they can freaking fix my hood.

I, too, have noticed that the hood does flex a bit when I waxing her last week. I've never seen this on other car hoods. As far as closing the hood, I have always been taught to let it drop from about a foot or so above the latch. Having it make contact with the hood latch and then pushing down on it will most certainly put a dent in it!
Hmmm....

Well it wasn't like I was laying on the hood also
Just holding her up against it, so all the pressure was going against the front of the car mostly, and a little on the hood. Good solid car and it didn't move much. My last one the car wove start to slightly move, even with the ebrake on.
Seems like the front of cars is made for this type of activity
Try it sometime, works well.

Does DentWizard actually work or is it all BS?
Thanks.

Re: Seems like hood on 2002 Maxima is very soft...
The next day after getting my 2001 Max, someone at the dealer put a small crease on my hood right above the latch. I was upset!
, but I got over it and got it removed by the dent wizard. What I would recommend and I have told alot of friends to do, don't close it with your hands. Drop the hood down about 1 ft above the latch and it will close.

Speaking of the hood being extra flexable....
Has anyone else noticed the thing flex while driving at 80mph or so? My driver's side back corner (right above the dash) moves with the wind. I often watch it on my drive to work. Maybe the black color makes it stand out more, but check it out if you have the chance!

Re: Seems like hood on 2002 Maxima is very soft...
i did the samething to my 2k....prob I close the hood too hard and it bent itself...looks like a big dent (size of a baseball)
I couldnt stand it.....I tried. and everytime I look at it (even the car bra is on) I think about it....
after 2 weeks of suffering. I called dent pro and have them take care of it.
not completely popped out......but looks much better and u have to look very close to tell by the bent of the reflection
cost : 95 dollars (a berk intake plus a week worth of beer supply)
sorry to hear about ur situation...but now the way I close the hood is to lift it up for a foot and half then drop it.
