how does PR CAI sound???

guys, i am crazy....i really want to make my car louder....Y-pipe is too expensive, the exhaust...i afraid it's too loud and i will get pull over...so my last choice is the PR CAI, all of u say it sounds awsome...but does it still make sound in normal driving?? like under 3k??? and how does it sound?? anyone have clip for it??.....by the way, what did u guys use to drill a 3" hole??? i thought it's a metal surface.....how can u drill it....??

P.S
it's my 4th months when i was joined for maxima.org....since i am a car dummy....i know i always ask question and might let u guys feel i am annoying...but i still want to thank you all for helping me or answering me question...i learn a lot from u guys~!!

hmm, not sure, haven't heard the JWT. The CAI is a pretty nice, subtle intake sound. Anyone?

hey skyjay, im sure youve read about it, but if you want sound, frankencar intake is pretty loud, and you dont even have to drill anything...

Heh, I misunderstood what you wanted from reading your first post! If you want it louder at LOW RPM, then the best thing to do is get a performance muffler. A big baffled "turbo" type muffler will make it somewhat louder, you can remove the resonator if it's too quiet. A "straight through" design muffler is probably louder than this even with the resonator, but not likely to get you pulled over (unless you remove the resonator). I've heard the Dynomax Race Magnum is loud but tough sounding. (SEARCH) The tiny straight throughs (like on eBay) are probably even louder. Either way you will probably run into some droning noise proportionate to how loud it is.

It's kinda funny because a lot of people buy exhaust to hear lots of noise up high, only to find it makes all its noise down low and that it's stock sounding at higher RPM.

I like all my noise up top and quiet down low, so I'm (hopefully!) getting an intake soon.

i wonder if i respond here if you'll call me a retard again??

ANYWAY... the PR CAI sounds like a hissing noise... or you can say sucking... not loud enough to sound like a blower, but its nice to hear it sucking in the air.

as for exhausts, it all depends on what muffler you buy. removing the resonator wont do much in noise level... you just wont have a resonator. i had purchased a generic muffler from a friend which sounded very mean, it looked like the apex'i N1 muffler, cept bigger with a 4" tip. that thing with no intake, ypipe, sounded mean. it had a nice bassy sound up to 3k, then about 3.5k it turns into a high pitched yet noticable sound. cruising around 60 will be annoying, cruising at 70+, you'll hear a nice droning sound.

my car pulls harder with my stock exhaust than the custom catback...

anyhow the PR CAI is for low end, and it has a nice sucking sound to it.

same style exhaust i had. looks like the same design... if you have a ypipe with this catback.. your car will be screaming! (and loose low end power)

why not keep that? is it too loud? if its too loud maybe you should get a small resonator... cheaper than a new muffler with silencer and does the same job as a silencer almost.

i dont believe you can add a silencer to the greddy evo. but you should just wait to see what other people have to say, or give advice to you.

the po po prolly thinks its too loud for a MAXIMA...thats all.
