Dull/fading bumpers

Do all of you have the fading bumpers problem? The car gets cleaned/waxed and looks good, but the bumper looks awful. What can one do? The rear end of the Max tends most vulnerable to the elements.

Use an oxidation remover (cleaner wax) like Meguire's etc before you do your next wax job. It'll remove that oxidation and bring back the bright paint finish underneath. I don't know why, but plastic parts always seem to oxidize worse than metal parts.

Not to flame, but in chemistry Metals are the only elements to which oxidation can occur. For those who are familiar with Redox (Reduction - Oxidation) 02 is the reduction agent that strips the metal of electrons, which is called oxidation. I imagine that the bumper looks duller, because it is made of a material that is different. Also, since it isn't a metal, it doesn't have the properties of metal. Thus, it will look different when you paint the two (metal and fiberglass (plastics)).

P.S. oxidation = rusting

cough cough *nerd* cough Just kidding!

Actually, I noticed my front bumper looks totally swirled and the rest of my metal parts are looking better (for the most part).

Meguiars ScratchX works very well. I use the Clay Bar, ScratchX, and then a good top coat to wax my Max twice a year, and then my hand falls off

it's the paint that's oxidizing, not the metal/plastic underneath it.

and yes, i do have that problem, but with my front bumper. there's tons of paint deoxidizers on the market. i'll just clay it and if it still needs work, i'll try one of those.

Didn't you just get your Maxima? Is the paint quality that bad that the bumpers are looking faded already?

Joe.
