FrankenCar Intake is AWESOME!

Hey Steve,
I just wanna say that your intake is totally awesome. Just finished installing it. Sounds great and looks charming. However, when I finished attaching the 3 breather lines to the, I had another breather/vaccum line open with no other place to stick to. Is the line suppose to be just open?
I also hear a small "whishing" sound when i step on the gas pedal lightly. is this normal? Thanks

NO, it is suppose to connect to the hose tree. I think you might need to buy a new hose (at least that's what the people with the CAI's do) because the stock one is too short...something like that.

Yes, that is normal.

there are three line to attach, the three that were on the stock air box, the 4th one is a breather line that's not attached. glad to hear you like it. enjoy the ride.

so i leave the fourth one alone? its slightly thicker, with a rubber wrapping around it. I've already stuck the 3 onto the tubing, but couldn't figure out where the 4th one came from.

Definetly more noticeable than my previous intake setup which was just K&N drop in and OSCAI. You actually can feel a "rushing" gain when you floor it around 3000RPM and up. It's great. Worth the money. Can't wait to test it on the highway. Very nice "growling" sound coming from the engine bay. During lower rpms, you don't hear much except for this "whishing" sound but otherwise it's a blast!

i know there is a 4th one which is just a breather line, it's the shortest one i think. the two smaller ones that were stuck to the stock air box are teh ones that go on mine and then the big one too.

and shipping to new york should be 2 business days.

Installed mine about two days ago. The sound has a more resonant hollow sound to it. A little different than just a pop charger. I think My maf sensor is getting a cleaner reading also. I really like the intake. It's more noticeably loud in the upper RPM's (when the second intake runner opens). It's pretty dang loud. I love the sound.

Your intake is teh siht. Oh I ordered it on valentines day and got it the following tuesday. It was shipped US priority mail. Very nice.

My only problem is the length of the wirre of temperature sensor thatwas connected to the front scoop. I cut the loom down to the plastic retainer and it's BARELY long enough the wire is really taught. I don't really want to cut the plastic retainer that's around the positive battery cable. Do you happen to knowhow to remove it so I can have a little more slack. Otherwise the intake rocks. The guys at quickie lube sure liked it. (Kinda like the guys at discount tire turn the bass all the way up when they think I'm not there............ punks)

I actually had to cut the plastic retainer holding the positive battery line to get to more slack. You can tape it up afterwards, i suppose. Did you have an extra breather line hanging out? My two little ones and the main one were stuck to the tube, but had an extra thicker line still no where to go.

the wire is just long enough without releasing the black clip. that's the only way i saw to do it. without having you all splice more wire into it.

Hey Steve, I have a couple of questions about the intake.

1.What parts (if any) of the factory warranty does the intake void? They obviously wouldn't cover the intake itself, but how far past that does it go? Is the rest of the engine still covered? I called my local dealership today and they couldn't really tell me much.

2.How soon will the stage 3 intake be available? Do you know how much more power it will add over the stage 2? Do you know how much more it will be yet?

If either of these questions is stupid or was recently asked, I'm sorry. Thanks for your help.

No mods whatsoever void your warranty (only for that mod though, common sense). If they can prove that the mod cause a certain problem, then yes your warranty is voided. But if they cannot, they you'll be fine.

the way it works is they have to prove the mod directly caused the problem that lead to the failure. you engine will be ok. dealership's are stupid. just take this out before you go in for warranty work.

stage 3 will be available in a few weeks. we are still deciding what to make it out of and such. and we don't know how much more till we decide what to make it out of, hopefully not more then 50 bucks more. and the hp gains should be a couple more, more the faster you go, since it will be a heatshield and air scoop.

Is it typical for an intake to kill power at lower rpm's? I only ask and maybe it is in my head, but since putting my intake on my car sometimes feels a little sluggish at lower rpm's

I put my FC intake back on today, after getting my brakes fixed at a Nissan dealer using the Brake TSB. I missed the hissing and growling. I had put my stock intake on two days ago. I forgot how quiet stock was. The stock VQ has a subdued growl that you can hear from inside the car, but the beauty of the FC intake is that I got the ability to share the sound with others!
Anyway, I was trying to estimate if the stock intake gave me back any low-end torque that I might have lost with the FC intake. Did I say I suck at estimating yet? I'll have to dyno with both soon.

I forgot to say that my car only has 3 breather lines. Where is the 4th one coming from? The smallest one comes from the joining of two lines coming out of the variable intake runner thingymabob. Are those separate on your car, or is it a larger hose?

The 4th breather line is on the right of main breather line. In this picture, you can see the 4th one:
http://www.5thgenmaximas.com/howto/v...vcinstall2.jpg
(next to the main breather line, there's a holder , attaching the both of them)
I was thinking about going to the dealership soon for brake service and checking the noises from my right strut. Do i have to take off my frankencar intake and put on my stock airbox?? I mean, most of the stock airbox is pretty much stripped down so I don't want to go through the hassle of putting it together. Will they void my warrantly if they see the frankencar intake?

I don't have a 4th line with that holder?? Maybe 2k is different than 2k1.

I didn't take the chance. I had to monkey with my intake for a different reason anyway, so I put the stock intake back on, but I left all other mods on, like FSTB, RSB, HIDs, clears, bulbs. The service guy at the dealer never mentioned anything except that he liked my headlamps. I guess he looked under the hood and/or turned them on inside the garage.

I put my Frankentake on today as well. It is very nice, wrong color, but nice. The 2002 sounds like it is going to explode when you hit it. I have never heard an intake that makes so much noise, yet, when you don't punch it it sounds just like the stock unit was back in, WOW.

I have noticed a much improved throttle response, it always seemed like my car was hesitating to go when I would punch it before, now, as soon as I get on it I am going. I put about 50 miles on the car tonight and hit up a couple of my "car buddies" and they couldnt believe how it sounded and they said the car seems to get up a bit quicker than before. Now if I can just get the damn Check Engine light off. I have the car sitting all night with the battery unhooked, so we will see.

Another happy customer Steve (except the color thing). This thing is worth the $150.

I'm pretty sure they saw my OSCAI before as well as my strut bar, clear lense when I went to the dealership to change my oil..heck, they even put fitted my aftermarket break light bulbs back on. I think I'll take a chance.
