The Philips Ultinons according to Philips has 6000K so they claim.
85 Volts and 35 Watts for D2S and D2R
http://www.philips.co.jp/lighting/au...non/xenon.html

"The Ultinon lamp has a colour temperature of 0.327X 0.312Y (5800K). It is NOT brighter than a standard D2.
The standrad Philips D2S has a colour temperature of 4100K (0.380x 0.390y) it is NOT 4300K."
-autolampsonline

I think they've done their research. heh.

so where do aftermarket D2R burners fit into this?

Not positive, but I'd say estimating from the loss of lumens on the D2S that it would be around 1800-2000lm and 5600-5800K.

Thats why i got the D2S bulbs, not to see how much MORE glare I would have, but to at least have more light when riding around with the Ultinons.

Lumens >>

is a measure of light intensity, or Candelas of light per unit meter. The D2R bulb was meant to be used with a reflector lamp, which is what your 2K2 lamps are. D2S bulbs were designed to be used with projector lamps, that's why you get such a choppy, uneven beam pattern. The "little shield" that you claim to not need, there's a reason why it's there. But blocking the light going towards the bottom of the lens or reflector, it is effectively preventing light from going upwards, into the eyes of oncoming drivers. Congrats, you've just reverse engineered your headlamps.

who claimed not needing the little shield???

I certainly didnt, I have D2S, I know all of this, Do I care about glare? NOPE, Do I care about on coming drivers eyes? NO as i have them aimed lower than stock. DOT lamps dont effectively reduce glare as ECE lamps, If I cared as much I would do CEFIRO (ECE) retrofits, But I didnt. Im currently using D2R Ultinons, D2S usage was for testing purpose, to see how effective the DOT lamps would handle the extra light, and How much more light I would salvage with the ultinons vs. using proper D2R bulbs, I've had HID lights for 5 years, starting with my 7 series. I have no complaints with d2s bulbs, I knew what I was getting into before I started. In a sense, I DID ALL THIS ON PURPOSE TO COMPARE D2R'S VS. D2S IN D2R HOUSINGS, NO COMPALAINTS ON CHOPPY BEAM PATTERN, MY M3 HAS A MUCH CRISP BEAM EVEN WITH D2R'S, THE D2S ULTINONS ARE IN MY 2K2 M3 NOW WHERE IT BELONGS YES, AS I DONE ALL MY REQUIRED TESTS TO BACKUP STATEMENTS LIKE "MORE LIGHT YES, MORE GLARE YES, RECOMMENDED, NO." My classmate works for Philips of North America, I've been in R&D and Labs.

"The "little shield" that you claim to not need, there's a reason why it's there. " - YOU
Who said that???? Who claimed that shield wasnt needed? Are you nuts? why did engineers design 2 different bulbs then if that wasnt needed?? no $hit, I know that.

If you werent so late in replying to this thread you would have seen my eariler posts reguarding glare and how d2s brings upon that and how our housings are D2R bulbs are MADE for Free form housings.

In conclusion, I 've found that DOT , Lamps dont effectively reduce glare as E code lamps, EVEN WITH D2S TYPE BULBS. D2R DESIGNED E CODE HOUSINGS STILL HAVE A MORE CRISP BEAM PATTERN AS COMPARED TO MY MAX'S DOT'S.

Go back a few pages, Im compeletely aware of that "little shield".

Not a good attitude my friend. Part of being a good driver is being a considerate driver.

heh I have D2R's now, so Im not a threat, and our company is currently developing autoleveling systems for my maxima similar to the M3's design, thats how considerate I am to others

So far our 5,000 rpm motor isnt reacting fast enough, and the mercury leveler isnt triggering it quick enough, basically after Im on an incline the lights level down. I think its mercury filled, its a silver bubble composed of thick liquid, heh, dont want to find out, but retro'ing our test ML55' s DLS to it may do the trick.

You like blue/purple color? then the 6000k's are what youre looking for! Want HID color most HID equipped cars dont have? YES 6000K's are it! Very Purple when seen on the road, light cast is about the same as OEM output but color is very blue, Im happy with mine, very easy to install, take old on out, put new one in, and they range from $299-$230 depending on group buy or retail.
