18.2 MPG??/what the sweet heck is up??

I got 18.2 MPG from my last tank(2K SE Automagic)...i mean common ppl what is going on. I know they add crap to fuel in winter and all, but still. i was getting 21, atleast. Since i put in aftermarket muffler and intake,,the mileage sucks now,,,I drive 6 minutes to work and the same home,,,is it because of all the stop and go traffic???

It's because 6 minutes is not enough time for you car to fully warm up. If it doesn't warm up, which takes longer in winter, it'll run rich through your entire 6 minute commute. The reformulated gasoline they sell in winter only makes things worse for MPG.

that's it?

you drive 6 minutes, stop and go, then park and do it again in the afternoon? You're lucky you're getting mileage that high. You're doing almost the worst kind of driving possible for an engine, and for mileage.

Of course, you could go the round-about way and have it take 15-20 minutes of crusing 35-40 with no stop-and-go and you'd get better mileage, but you'd burn more gas by driving more miles.

How/when did you measure the 21mpg? After a weekend trip, during a vacation week when you drove more highway? I wouldn't worry if I were you, but I'd also take the Max out for a rip every once in a while (like every day at lunch)

I know the feeling... I have a 10-minute, 3-mile drive back and forth each day, with about 10 lights. That's why I race to each one! Mine - 2K 5-speed - gets about 19-20 city. Need to get it on the hiway often - much better there...

screw the mileage....how you get a 6 minute commute??? and Highlander with a 10 minute?? not fair..My commute is 18 miles and takes about 45 minutes to an hour!!! sometimes I can get it in 30!!

Tha bad part is I USED to drive 60 miles and it only took me an hour and 15!!

oh if it matters I usually get a little over 20-21 mpg in my daily....but when I can get that open spot in traffic I get there in a hurry

I have a ridiculous "commute" if you can even call it that. It's approximately 6 blocks, and if I hurry I can make it from my house to the parking lot at work in roughly 3 minutes give or take, based on how I hit the lights. If I weren't so lazy (and didn't love my car) I'd just walk. With the longer driving I do after work and at lunch, I'm getting about 21mpg over the winter in my 6spd SE. When I don't do a lot of other driving during a week, I can get as low as about 16-17mpg the way I drive.

My wife has a short commute everyday plus a lot of stop and go driving. We're averaging about 15 - 17 mpg around town. On my last trip to the coast (300 round trip miles), I got 27.5 mpg. I'll take that and enjoy my Max. Maybe I should look for a 200+ HP sport sedan that gets 30 - 40 mpg.

I go 2.7 miles each way with one light.Only had my Max about 2 weeks and im only on my 2nd tank of fule.Would guestimate about 20MPG going by the odomoter.Been doing this commute for 10 years and would quit the job before driving a long distance.Im home before most of the people I work with get on the highway.
