Changing Spark Plug???

Hey guys how difficult is it to change the plugs on a 2k maxima? Just picked up some new plugs today at work and haven't been home yet to take a look at the coils over the plugs. Is it very involved and do I need any special tools? My shop said they would change them for about $60. What do yall think. Thanks in advance.

What up Diedrek, long time no post, hope you and the family are good.

Well the plugs are easy all you need is an 10inch extension wrench, 8mm socket, and spark plug socket. You may have to take off the FSTB, to get to the rear 2nd and 3rd plug but it just takes a few minutes. 1st time took me about 45 min, but now I can do it in about 15-20 minutes.

Do any new mods lately?

Thanks for the info. The family is doing great, my little girl (10 months old) is already walking. No new mods lately. My shop is supposedly getting in the Aquamist system here in the next week but I'll believe it when I see them. (They've been telling me that for months now!) The manager of my shop has his turbo powered (367 FWHP) Ford Focus featured in the latest issue of Turbo magazine, so check it out. That thing is a beast. I'm going to the shop tomorrow to have my car dynoed so I'll post the results in the next couple of days. Later

I successfully changed my plugs last night, although it took me an hour and 45 minutes. The front 3 were a piece of cake but the back three especially the one by the throttle body was a ROYAL PAIN IN THE BUTT !! I have 50,000 miles on my car with 32,000 put on after the SCer install. The plugs looked amazingly very good considering I had never changed them and I put 32K miles on them with the SCer. The guys at my shop were even amazed. There is one correction on "The New Climax's" post and that is you need a 10mm socket not an 8mm socket but other than that thanks for all the info.

Yeah the first time is a real learning experience especially for the back ones, Man I was debating if it was a 8mm or 10mm, ohh well.
The next time should be easier. Did you use Stock plugs or go with a colder setup?

Yeah 4th gen can keep the FSTB on but us 5th gens have to take it off, that's ok we make up for it with about 32 ponies stock

Since Stillen designed the kit to run on the stock platinum tip NKG plugs I decided to go ahead and stick with them. I figure if detonation was a real concern during the development of the kit that Stillen would have shipped new one step colder plugs with the kit or at the very least tell us to change to them in the instruction manual. Wait a minute we are talking about Stillen who did "All their homework when they said the V2 was a direct bolt on to an auto tranny and that it would have no problem handling the power!!" Well the car has been running fine with the stock plugs so I really didn't see a need to change them to one step colder.

My car was the first automatic that the V2 SCer kit was installed on back in May 2000. It was only after discovering all the problems with my car (i.e. not straight bolt on and my car required beefing up the tranny to handle the power) that Stillen stopped selling the kit to auto tranny owners due to liability implications. The first year sucked working out all of the bugs but the car has been running great now for over a year.
