New top speed for my 2k2!

I bought a 93' rx7 in San Antonio Saturday. My bud Ed drove up w/me in the Max and I followed him back to Houston (Me in the Rex and He in the Max). On the way back some chick in a newer TransAm passed us doing about 115 mph, we were avg'in about 95-105. My friend is in front of me (the max had the radar) and he speeds up...I follow suit. Next thing I know, well after passing the TA (no pun intended), my rx7 is showing 140 mph, Ed's in front driving my max and we exited for gas. He said the Max had some more in it (it was showing 138 mph, no fuel cut!)...my RX7 was purring along at about 4900 RPM, redline is like 7500 rpm!! I know..even though clear roads and weather..still dangerous stuff...but d@mn that was fun!

Texas has great roads for speeding -- Texas, RX7 and Maxima all have an 'X' in them too, I gotta get some sleep

Speeds in the '02

I managed to find a long enough stretch of Interstate that was empty one day and ran my car up to (a speedometer claimed) 130 in 5th gear a little below redline. I was wondering if anybody knows if the car will still accelerate through 6th gear or if it's geared too tall. I didn't have time to test that myself, I was coming up on a group of cars and had to brake. If it will accelerate in 6th, is the '02 governed? I was thinking that I read somewhere that the stock tires are only rated to 145 and the car is obviously geared for more than that.

Also, what are some other current top speeds with the new 6 speeds or autos? 255HP stock is a nice start. I know I'm not the only one that's curious.

my top speed is 130 and I had plenty left...I just pushed it outta 3rd at that point..but alas ran out of room stupid cars going speedlimit!
Did run a 14.74 at the track yesterday (first time ever running a track) @94 mph!! That's fun...gotta line up against some imports though like the celica. Corvette's and camaros aint no joke

You do know 5th gear redlines around 155MPH right? From the Dynos we've seen the car may get a few MPH faster in 6th than in 5th, but it'll be close.

what sucks is on the 4th Gen's .. the auto's have higher top speed than the manuals.. too bad 90% of them don't have the power to get there

I believe that 2K2THEMAX took his 2002 Auto up to an indicated 155MPH and a GPS measured 147.7MPH. No one else seems to have gotten an 2002 past that speed yet.

Cool, I thought I was gonna go with ya to check it out (but I guess you liked it....I know how you fall asleep on that 2.5 hour flat road from SA....

The NY/NY guys don't know what they are missing...Its so flat and boring on these roads, you can sleep for an hour, and never even change lanes.

Thanks! Its nice to have others give the nod of approval on a purchase like this. It wasn't easy pulling that kinda jack out of my account, so the wellwishers are highly appreciated (my wife is NOT one of them!)!

BTW, there is a 93' FD in Houston for $13,800. It has a pretty new rebuild. You could probably get it for less than $13k. It would need around $1,500.00 to take care of various maintenance items, but could be a good deal. It is a touring edition (leather, s/r, bose, etc.) and I wanted the R1 for the sport upgrades (minor) and rarity...But I paid alot more than $13k! So far I love the car...but it will never have the package deal my Max offers!!!

Hey MaxPower2K2, move to Canada ! roads are end less here, just to give you a clue, I live in Quebec and your can drive for 14 hours non stop and be still in Quebec, Canada's longest highway is the Trans Canada and it's about 4400 miles long, no kidding.

Cheers

Do any 4th gen autos really have the power to pull all the way to 185 mph?

Hawaii has no roads to do those kinds of speed. If you do, you're dumb and stupid. So many people die here because of high speeding in Hawaii. Its sad. Some people are good drivers, but Hawaii's road aren't made for those speeds with all the curves and no real straights with no cars.

Got to 155mph+ in 4th gen

With the mods I had, I hit 155mph+. That's when I looked down, but I kept pushing it a little more then shut it down. Very strang feeling going that fast. Cars seem to stand still.

A SHO decided to dance, so after I walked on him I just kept going. 3 lane highway with light traffic...
