Non-HID 2k2's

Hey after-marketeers...
It is obvious all of us 2k-2k1 5th-genner's want the "look" of the 2k2, and some of us are willing to pay the $1400 for the real thing!
I am waiting to see if an after-market company is preparing to make a look-a-like to the 2k2. Anybody seen or heard anything about that?
Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have the HID, but that's a lot of dough.

Buy the headlight shell?

Did you check on just buying the shell, without the HID assembly? Would be cheaper than the $1400 I would imagine.

You can do that? How would halogen bulbs fit into place?

If that would work it would be great!

It wouldn't be easy....

If you look at a pic of the back here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...oDisplayType=2

The area where the headlight is located looks like it may be sealed. The connecter is located next to it (with the orange wire loom going to it). I think you'd need to drill into the case, and then you'd probably have to deal with trying to get the beam pattern right and the bulb fitting properly. If you're really interested in trying, I can snap some closer shots with the digital camera, but you might want to check to see if you can even purchase the housing seperate from the balasts and bulbs.

I seriously DOUBT Nissan will sell the housing alone.

It does look like it would be difficult to make the housing work.

you could change the 9005 halogen bulbs out and i think but i may be mistaken that nissan does sell the housing by itself for the 2k2 max

I do....but I have a wife. It's hard to convince her HID's are worth $1400 when I can't convince myself.

I could be wrong, (wouldn't be the first time)....

but I would imagine that Nissan would have the housing as a seperate part. What if a customer just cracks the housing, cause of a stone chip or something... I would be pißßed if I had to buy HID bulbs and ballast that I wouldn't need.

As far as modding the housing to take halogens, yeah it would be a bit experimental, maybe involving drilling screw holes / epoxy / and custom fabricating, but then that's part of the fun.

i was just in nissan yesterday and asked them if they sell it seperatly and they said no... he checked in the computer in front of me and there was nothing there for just the shell... i want to get 2k2 headlights without the HIDs since i have my own set already... i guess maybe someone has to contact DaveB and see what he says... maybe he can get them
