Alternatives for Paint protection

I've read a lot of complaints about the paint chipping easily on the Maximas, and I have to say I've had this problem on my '96 SE as well.

There's been a lot of talk about using the protective 3M tape on the hood, but no one has mentioned the plastic hood deflector.

I'm planning to pick up a 2002 SE shortly and I want to know if there's any reason not to go with the hood deflector vs. the "clear bra" tape.

Well, some people probably don't like the look of the deflector sitting on the front of the hood. Also, the chipping happens to the front bumper too (I have black, I kno whow easily the bumper chips) and the deflector won't help that, while the 3M tape will
