HID Headlight Replacement Costs

I was chatting with the service manager While waiting for the paint sealant to be done about the costs of the bulbs and almost fainted when he told me the 2 bulbs (they recommend doing both at the same time) cost $240.

I don't know how long they last but I'm not looking forward to having to plunk down that kind of money for 2 bulbs!

Does anyone know of an aftermarket version that will work and not burn up the ballasts? Also, anyone know how long they are supposed to last?

in theory... HID will last looooooooooooooooong... way longer then regular bulbs.. that's IF whoever installed didn't touch it.. or water didn't get in to it!... so don't worry about it too much!

Yea, Dave B. said $150 EACH for OEM bulbs!

They will supposedly last longer than the car UNLESS there is some extreme circumstance that causes them to die sooner.

You can get the Philips Ultinon 6000K(~5800K actually) HID bulbs for around $250-280 a PAIR. Less output, but more blue/purplish color than OEM.

After doing some research on the Internet I'm not as worried. Bulbs are supposed to last 3,000 hours or more. I haven't done the math but that sounds like quite a bit of driving.

For anyone interested the Sylanvia website (www.sylvania.com) has a lot of info on the HID lighting systems. Follow the links to the Xenarc product info. They don't show a replacement bulb for the 2002 Maxima yet but I'm sure it will be there soon.

Thanks!
