I believe some states on the East Coast has the Max as one of the most stolen vehicles.

its *almost* the exact situation with me, but i have cousins that have gotten in serious accidents in small used cars, so my parents wanted me to have a big car. =P i consider myself blessed for having the car.

However, to those of you whose parents bought you the cars, atleast you chose wisely. Im 30, I own my Max, I paid for it (paying for it), so thats all that matters. Plus my insurance is only 380 bucks every 6 months for full coverage lol. The Legend I had was 1200 every 6. Go figure. I guess the maxima is not as high risk for theft lol.
yeah i dont agree with it either, i would never buy my own kid that type of car, im gonna buy his butt a KIA(no offense to those who own one). But i'm lucky so i got one.
THey gave me that now im giving them something even more important a Bachelors Degree.
p.s. MSRP $28,375 INVOICE is $25,477

My kids are gonna get decent cars.. maybe not brand new... but a kia (etc.) is a death trap and lets face it, most kids aren't careful drivers and I want my kids safe.

Think i'm gonna buy a 2K Max SE

There's a deal on a 2K max SE for $269 month lease... I think I'm gonna get it... I'm 18... and although I don't think the maxima is the most gorgeous car in the world... I do like em... and they have lots o' power and good gas mileage... I have a 94 TBird now with a 205 horse V8 and love it... but its american and aging and dying slowly. I also drove a Caddy Eldo... 300 horse Northstar, DAMN.... but I think this will be the best for me plus they are RELIABLE... what do you all think?

Heh...lots of youngins driving Maximas..

I'm 19, and I've had my 99 SE since March 99 (I was 18 when I got it). I paid for it myself though. Sticker price was 25,807, and since the 99's were being phased out for the 5th gen I got a pretty hefty discount (5k off sticker!!). If it wasn't for that I'd probably be driving a 4 banger Passat or Accord at the moment

I agree, Maxima's aren't the prettiest machines (but far from ugly)..but the engine...oooohhh, that engine!! It's torquey and powerful and smooth and raucous and fuel efficient..all at the same time!

It's all relative. Some sports cars never get above 20. I can get 27-28 on the HWY with full blast AC, fully loaded car, while going 75. My usual city mileage is 19.

27 MPG!! Wow, I'm lucky to get 20+ even with highway driving. Then again, it is quite hot here and I've got quite a lead foot. I'm hoping winter will help my milage improve. Plus I don't even have 10k miles on my car, should my milage improve as I get a little more miles on it?

Gas Mileage

....Usually improves quite a bit after you have put some miles on the engine. So, if you have low miles on your engine, you can usually expect a bit lower mileage. Once you are past 10k miles or so, it should be pretty consistent. I think I am getting around 21 mpg right now in mixed driving. I only have 500 miles on my car though.

24K... mostly freeway miles, but 23 mpg. I leave the auto-climate thingy on all the time... maybe that kills it? I'm going to see what I get with the cai after the next fill-up. You guys are pretty lucky to be getting 27+ mpg...

Gas Mileage

Odd

In town with my 2k 5speed se I now get 22~23mpg on the highway I get 31. My mothers 2k auto gxe on long hwy trips gets 33~34. but to get the 30+ I have to baby it.

Re: Mileage

I have about 14k on my car, about %85 highway, and I average around 24mpg. For such a powerful V6 sedan, I think it's pretty damn good.

Look at the IS300...it has a 3 liter 6 cylinder engine, like the Maxima (albeit different arrangement). It weighs nearly the same as a 5th gen, about 3200-3300lbs. Yet while the Maxima's EPA rated mileage is 21/29 for auto, the IS300 is rated at 18/23! What's more, the Maxima is more powerful!

So if you're mileage in a Maxima is about 23, imagine what it would be in an IS300

In this case, I would definitely call the Maxima fuel efficient.

Damn I guess... wish I had a mommy and daddy that would by me a car like all the kids around here...
my first car was a 95 Escort wagon... I "borrowed it" albeit paid $1000 to my grandma to use it for a year...which was kinda a deal... and then bought a 94 Tbird with my own money, still payin on the F***** thing... need to sell it... and I plan on leasing a 2k Max as soon as I unload the TBird...
:issed that kids get free cars from the parents:: and "fix them up" themselves... LoL...its a brand new car what needs to be "fixed" sorry I'm just venting... ignore me
