now they wanna charge to paint grill

For those who saw the pics of how I wanted my front grill painted (see my homepage)The body shop said they would paint it for free. Now they are sayig if I only wanted certain bars painted, then it will take 2hours of taping the lesser bars. Again, you can see it in my pictures. They want $40-$80 of work time to paint only certain bars. should I do it?

I think I'm gonna do it. Just that I can't picture taking 2 hours to mask the area.

What happened there?

If you do it like ur photoshop it should look sweet. 2 hours masking the area does seem like a long time...

Hey cool, you got the picture. I couldn't figure out how to do that. yeah. I would figure about 1 hour. $40 (I think he said thats what labor was).

Yeah, hit a 2000 mustang. I was racing it and he hit the breaks when a cop was around the corner... JK.
A car made a left turn infront of the lane I was in. Was two cars infront and didn't see the car making the fast left as he never stopped. Everybody hit the breaks but I was too slow. So I bumped him slightly. Hardly a scratch on his end, but since my nose was diving, it got raked when the nose came back up. At least I get a new painted hood. No more chip paint.

I'm guessing they don't wanna do the work and want to see me not do it. I was going to get the 2002 bumper but he said there was too much replacement parts.
I checked and besides what was already being repaired, I would need to buy a $80 foam backing for the 2002. And that was about it. Oh, I would loose my fogs as the 2002 are different. Becuase of that, I didn't push it was "only" $80 difference.

Well that didn't go well. Looks like I'm gonna get the whole grill painted white. Why? When I went down there, he confirmed it will be a min of 2hrs, and he could got garantee(sp) that the paint would not peel because all the parts that needed to be masked off would have a paint edge.

Maybe when it is done, you could take your own sweet time, mask it off and paint the areas you dont want white with a matte black color.

Mind if I ask...

what they charged to replace the front bumper (unless I misread and all you had done to it was paint)?

Thanks!

Car accident. Had to replace the bumper. $1800 to do that.

And I'm probably going to remove the smaller grill. Still thinking. They said they could cut it off, but it wouldn't look good. You have to see how the grill is put together. Kinda hard to just cut the skinny bars.

I have had estimates of around $675, one even at a Nissan dealer to replace my front bumper, paint it and reattach my AE parts....and I thought THAT was high.

Thanks!

My 2002 blaxima is in the shop right now, getting the hood repainted. I'm also having them repaint the grille black - they're doing it for $75.

To paint it all one color was cheap (part of the repair work) but if I wanted only the main middle bar and the two big horizontal bars painted, they would charge 2 hours of labor.
