Raced an IS300
I was driving to my friends house yesterday after installing an underdrive pulley when I saw an IS300. I figure I should be able to take him out so I asked him to race. The first time I raced him we were tied. The second time I raced him I overdid it on the gas and had too much wheel spin and he gained half a car from the start but nothing more so pretty much I would consider that a tie since he didn't gain any ground. Raced him 3 times and all 3 times I tied him (this was from 0-80 at a stop light) I was actually really disaapointed. I recently installed a CAI, Ramdom Tech cat, and underdrive pulley. I have a 2000 SE with auto tranny. I went home to check on the specs of an IS and found that it was almost 1000 pounds lighter then my car. Do you think that IS was modified or do you think it was stock? Or does my driving really suck that bad?
I checked the weight again, you're right, Maximas are not that heavy. I must have looked at the wrong numbers. Maximas are only about 400-500 pounds heavier. I really have to find another IS300 to race. Thanks for all those suggestions. I'll definitely buy a Y-pipe and then change my ECU. Any suggestions for a Y-pipe that satisfies CA standards? Any of you guys from San Francisco? Thanks again..

hope to meet you in person soon!
Yeah that'll be cool! I was just racing on 19th Ave with the IS yesterday at 1am. We were going 80 down 19th.. kinda funny cuz he was yelling out the window "hey, I just got a speeding ticket 30 minutes ago on Geary, no more......"
I drive an auto, rarely race anyone and have slaughtered several IS300's. That was b4 I got my y-pipe. I was at the Dallas auto show last week and those cars seem to have a lot of mods available. Even a supercharger. Or maybe your driving really is bad. Let's hope he was modded.
Just a little perspective here for a sec. First of all, IS300's arent slow. They are comparable to the max actually. AUTO vs AUTO, and Stick vs Stick, they are very similar. all this slaughter business is hard to believe unless you have mods. I have a manual IS300 and a auto 2k max with an intake and when i raced them the IS won by about a length. So the point of this post is to say dont sleep on the IS. Oh and if anyone wants to see for themselves, and if you live near philly, give me a hollar and its on
I've raced 2 auto IS's b4 and pulled on both of them. They were both about the same, I would pull in 1st, then my second would hit, and they would real me in, but after 4500 rpm in my 2nd, I would hold my ground and maybe pull a little, then my 3rd would come and I'd start gaining a little more, but not much, so in the end I would win by ~1/2 carlength. Not bad for a 4th gen with 150K+miles and a bad knock sensor.
When I was racing the IS I let the tranny do all the work. Can you give me a few pointers on when to shift manually on an auto to get the best results? (I'm really REALLY starting to regret buying an Auto)
