Ive got a grand and an 2k2.Guide me to the faster lane. What to do
Hello folks.Ive got the ok from my wife to blow a grand and need some guidence.Ive never moded a car before but would like my 2k2 to be a tad faster. What would be some good combos to get.I do not want to be super loud when buzzing around town and cruising on the highway but would like to have some extra jukie on tap. Thanks for any suggestions and your time.

You can get into the fastlane at anytime... just
slightly turn your steering wheel to the left.
Also, use your blinker to signal others of your
decision to get into the fastlane.
I'll expect the $1,000 to arrive as cash NOT
check. Then I can get started on making MY car a
bit faster.
Seriously though, be sure to add a front & rear
sway bar to your list. I'm getting mine soon. A
lot of people here swear by 'em. Oh, and there's
no way that you'll stop at $1,000. Not if u keep
visiting this site LOL.

A little bit over? Heck, the Y-pipe and Tires alone will hit that mark. :P

Awesome, I was going to ask the same question. Getting everything on your list, can you give me an estimate of how much hp/torque?
thanks again

to answer johncg316 to the best of my abilities.
1) Franken, on a 2k2, roughly 10hp/5tq. No PRCAI for 2k2 yet
2) Y-Pipe... not sure given there's not one for the 2k2 either. I'd say 15hp perhaps? (wild guess)
3) FSTB - 0hp (handling mod)
4) RSB - 0hp (handling mod)
5) *no idea*
6) 0hp (handling mod)
7) 0hp (reliability mod when coupled with 8) - IMHO
8) 0hp (tranny mod on auto's, reliability mod as well with 7)
9) 0hp (handling mod)
10) Variable HP/TQ depending on the shot.
A thing to note about handling mods is though you do not gain any power, driving would be more fun as you can put more of the power on the ground where normally you'd have to slow down or ease up on the throttle.

My suggestion is to keep the engine and exhaust stock until your car is out of warranty. Some dealers can and will be jerks about mods.
$1k would get you a decent set of wheels/tires but I would suggest aftermarket springs and struts instead. I would wait until the stock struts are shot (mine went around 60k miles on my '95) to help justify the cost, but that's me.
IMO, the 2k2 is plenty fast and if you have the 17" wheels already, you'll notice better handling performance from a set of springs. I'd also throw on an FSTB for good measure.

I have a 2k2 and though you make valid points about the strut/shock. The wheels should be the first to go. The Potenza's can't even handle the power the 2k2 can put to the ground without really bad wheel spin.
I even have to ease up *A LOT* when driving in wet conditions or the wheels just spin like crazy.

Gotta agree with Soundmike and others....
get rid of the tires!!! Even my AE spun them like crazy, both wet and dry...
If still new enough, try calling around to see if someone will 'buy' them off you or apply some kind of trade in on a better set. Some tire shops do this kind of thing and then sell yours on a 'clearance rack' or other 'take off' display.
