Funny race

So I was driving home last night and ended up at a light with a newer Infiniti QX4 (245hp) next to me. As it got closer to the light changing, he started inching forward so I thought he might be planning a little race strategy. The road also merges about 1/4 mile up into one lane for each direction. My natural competitive nature doesn't really allow me to ignore a situation like this. Besides, the QX4's really arn't all that quick because they weight a ton (or two plus to be more accurate).

The light turns green and he stomps on it. I obviously destroy him without even wringing out my engine at all. I only got up to about 55 in a 45 and he got behind me. We are now driving down this two lane road at about 52mph with some traffic in each direction (after all, it is around 5:30pm in the suburbs of Chicago). This idiot is going to show me how tough he is by jumping on the go pedal and passing me in a no passing zone with cars coming toward us just a little ways up. He ends up passing me at like 65-70mph with his engine up near the redline and gets honked at from on-coming cars. I guess he showed me who's boss.

For a second when I saw him getting ready to pass, I was tempted to drop my car in third and dust him. But then I figured if he is nuts enough to pass in a no passing zone with other cars around, I would rather have him in front of me.

SUV's can be so annoying! I think he misunderstood those ads for the Pathfinder calling them the "Sports Utility Rocket".

Re: Funny race

Here in Calgary, that kind of stuff happens a lot (aggreesive SUV drivers). For some reason, I always get irritated by drivers of Ford explorers. I believe that fate has selected the explorer as my mortal enemy. I wouldn't mind as much if it wasn't for the fact that there is so much grit in the middle of the lanes right now that whenever one of these behemoths roars across the lanes in front of me I get sprayed with gravel.

But speaking of funny I had some guy in a burgundy k-car with tinted windows trying to race me the other day.

im glad you said that. someone could have gotten hurt if you decided to keep him from passing you.

Yeah, when people do silly things like that, I try to stay clear. Apparently he has some serious road rage issues. I wouldn't want an innocent person to get hurt because of anything I was involved with.

I was in kind of the same situation...

A '89 Honda Accord was behind me. I was traveling 40 on a 40 road (in third gear@2500 RPM). He decides to pass me on the right shoulder. I punch it and we stay neck to neck until 60 and that's when I start to pull on him. I see him in my rear view laughing like "I WON because I was able to keep up with you".

I should have let him pass, setup for a better gear, and completly waste him at the next SAFE opportunity.

That's OK. Let's give him the false security...and he'll be spanked when he challenges the next Maxima.

The truely sad thing is after he risked his life to pass you, he probably reduced his speed to what it was before.

Where I live, it seems as if all SUV drivers are hating on my maxima. Everytime I get on the freeway on ramp going back home, the SUV behind me tries to pass me in the carpool lane. Unfortunately for them, I just end up flooring it and they have to get back behind me, then they end up driving past me at like 90+ mph when i'm using cruise control. tsk tsk.

SUV's Burned:
Pathfinder
Xterra
Explorer
Lexus
4 Runner

Well in general, if you are in the left lane and ANYONE is riding your butt, then get the hell out of the way. They shouldn't HAVE to use the CP lane to pass or should you throw pennies out of the SR at the person behind them.

Gotta be careful nowadays on the road. On the 60 freeway near my house, a lady and her kids were shot to death after they cut off a man on the freeway. He got road rage and pulled out a gun, pulled up next to her car and fired away... killing everyone in the car. Just be safe and be responsible.

Very True,

Once waiting to make a left at a huge intersection a older acura legend (suspect 98) tried to turn and pass me from behind using the opposite lane of traffic. No cars were coming on the other side so I unleased the fury and after putting him near my rear bumper with cars now coming this fool would not fall in behind me. I was unsure what stupid move he was gonna do next so I shut it down and let him pass. I'm pretty sure had I not done that he would have caused an accident.

SUV

owners think they are invincible. How sadly they are mistaken. I think that to own as nSUV you should take an SUV Defensive driving course. My modded out Legend will not see 90mph in the rain, yet these ladies and gents in tehrir NAvigator's and Burbans will fly past me at over90 in the rain. WTF?
Slow down!! I mean, really!
IS it worth it?
