does anyone else experience this? I purchased a dealer demo Y2K GXE with 20k miles on it and after 2 months of driving it I had to put new brake pads on it that cost me $260. Of course I was told that it doesn't fall under the warranty. I had the tire pressure checked in all four tires and it stills pulls to the left. Now I'm getting pissed off and I'm taking it into the dealer. Now all you guys know that when a women takes her car in for repair we are robbed blind. Can someone please give me an idea what may be wrong with it so that I don't go into the dealer totally clueless. I see that a lot of people have been complaining that the rotors are going bad. Do you think this is the case? Any info would be appreciated.

Does it pull when you are driving or braking?

If it's while driving, the car could be out of alignment (which you can get aligned at other places other than the dealer) or it could be a defective tire. Although you already have 20k, so a defective tire would have probably shown itself by now. You may just need an alignment, which is normal wear so the dealer is not likely to pay for it. But, you can get that done at just about any place that sells tires.

If you had a problem with the rotors you might get pulling while braking or vibration in the steering wheel.

It might just be time for a 4 wheel alignment and have the tires rotated and balanced.

I'm no expert though so you probably want to wait for a few more replies

oh, and one more thing: if you get an alignment other than at the dealer, just make sure you tell them to center the steering wheel. I hate getting my car back to find the steering wheel is off center... just bugs me!

Thanks you guys for giving me the 411. I brought the car to the dealer originally the first time because I was driving down 95 and all of sudden traffic came to a complete stop and when I hit my brakes the steering was vibrating. That's when I took it in and was told I needed new brakes. I think I will take you guys advise and get the car aligned. I also noticed that when I'm doing 70mph or above the steering wheel shakes a little. So this might be the answer to my problem. Hey, I think this site is the best. Thanks to all of you and your expertise. Thanks for helping a sister out. Everyone have a safe holiday!

on the $260...

it sounds like you got the rotor and pad work that alot of us are having to get. Many dealers are trying to charge for this. The rule is up to 12K miles because they are a wear item. Heck, some dealers are trying to gouge us for rotors and pads with less than 12k and its clearly covered... regardless of gender.

Nissan dealers will screw you regardless of gender, age or race... we are equal opportunity victims. And even with a great deal of technical understanding, the dealer can still turn the tables, confuse you, make you feel like a fool and empty your wallet. Happens to everyone.

Hear, hear to Tim's wise words.....although I haven't had to shell out a dime yet I have been through the made to feel like a fool bit.....problem is the dealer didn't do it....it came right from Nissan Field Engineers themselves!

As far as the vibration at 70 mph, a balance should do the trick...although my SE is smoother at highway speeds, my 91 Celica GTS cruised smoother believe it or not! SE has a really, really busy ride...feel everly little bump and crack in the road

Re: Hmmmmmmmm,,, how many sets did you reserve?

I've been experiencing this for some time.
Where the car vibrates at high speeds and low speeds.
I tried everything like allignment, balance, and tire pressure.
still the was rough.
Finally I convinced one of theses way out in the country dealers to replace my rotors for free!

The rides been a lot better, but I feel it going rough again
maybe its time for got rice's rotors.

I wonder what else could be wrong with the 2k max...

Angela?

I read your post about the steering wheel vibration and I have experienced the same problem not too long ago. Iwould go up to about 70-75mph and the steering wheel would start to shake and if I hit the brakes at the speed, there would be steering wheel vibration (not from the brake pedal). Well, I got so sick of it--and the guys on the forum was great, that I took it to a decent tire shop and they did a tire balance--and it was because my tires weren't balanced properly. After that--no vibrations at high speeds. However, I do feel a bit of vibration when I brake over 85--and that could be slightly warped rotors.

Go get the wheels balanced and see what happens.

Woa.. are you telling me that brake service is NOT included under warrenty??

What happened to "bumper to bumper"?? last time I checked, my brakes were in between my bumpers...

Guess I should pull out the warrenty and read the small print.. eh??

According to Nissan, the basic warrenty will cover brakes for the first 12k miles or 12 months whichever comes first since its consider a wear and tear item..

Duh, i just assumed that it was common knowledge not to wash your wheels right after driving..

(which is why I always wait at least 15 min to half an hour before washing my car,... [after driving it of course])
