2k2 brakes
I was washing my 2k2 GLE and noticed that the rear
brakes were badly rusted. The rotors were had deep
cuts in them and the caliper and pads were pretty
shot. I live in NY were the winters get bad and
the salt from the road gets on the car.
I have had my new Max since Nov 01 and only have
5650 miles.
Are other 2k2 owners experiencing premature brake
problems or just me. Would they be replaced under
warranty? I baby my car and follow the owners
manual 100%. I am taking it into the dealer anyways for the accelator stop recall.

brake rust
Its not uncommon to have rotors to show some rust. How much depends on the relative humidity and how long the car has not been driven. But even after a few days you can see some signs. Calipers/pads are another thing. Pads are semi-metallic and should not have much rust showing (in comparison to the rotor). The calipers should not have any as the exposed metal should be treated to prevent rust. Hope this helps.

I have over 12000 miles on mine and noticed rust on it the other day after it had stopped raining and the car sat at night. by the time I got to work that morning (only 18 miles but it took me 45 minutes) then all the rust was gone so...
the biggest thing is it just sitting after the rotors get wet. thats when the surface rust shows up. If it sits too much with the rust on it then it will start eating. Take it thats not your everyday driver???

Yes my car has been sitting a few days. I am working a new job 1/4 mile from home and I do not drive the car to work. This has been the past two weeks.I just noticed it today and its only the rear end.
The calipers have turned white from road salt but seem to be in good
condition. The outside of the pads are rusted but cannot see the inside. Guess I will just have them checked when I go to the dealer.
