Maxima good for high miles?

Hey all, I am considering a 2k2 SE and I expect to put up to about 1000 miles per week on it, mainly freeway (I'm a sales guy).

Can I assume that the Max will hold up to that kind of mileage?

Thanks,

L~

Maxima mileage

Not quite what you asked for but I had a 89SE that I recently retired with 167K miles. Excluding the power antenna, it was pretty much maintenance only.

I know lots of people with old maximas that have taken lots of miles and abuse who have had few to no problems. I've put about 20,000 on my 2000 maxima gle and had no problems (that were the cars fault anyway) at all, even when I didn't change the oil for a long time (I drive my car extremely hard and mostly on the freeway). 1000 miles per week is a lot for any car, but the maxima can take it, especially freeway miles. Good luck with whatever you get.

The engine itself is good for 200k. The tranny on the other hand went out on me in 40k (auto). Would I buy another Maxima?? Heck Ya!! I am waiting to see what 2k3 brings us. I want RWD. The trannies on the 2k2s seem to be beefed up so I'd buy a 2k2 with no regrets or worries.

The Maxima can handle it. I have a 2K SE and I'm approaching the 75,000 mile mark. The only problems I have had with the car include the warped rotors and the transmission solenoid. I'm averaging about 24 mpg. I usually put 200 miles a day on the car. My commute to work is about 70 miles each way. Somedays I cruise about 75 mph and others, when the coast is clear of those sneaky NJ State Troopers, I do about 95 mph. GO FOR IT

This is my second Max, last one was a 96' that I bought new and traded with 97,000 miles and NEVER had a problem, just put brakes and tires on it. Current Max is a 2000 SE Auto with 77,000 miles on it and it has been problem free. I just put brakes on it last week and tires on it at 65,000. I too am in sales and drive about 35,000/yr. mostly highway miles, the Maxima is perfect for me - it's not a the usually boring "sales issued sedan" and very comfortable on the road - I'd say go for it. My problem now is what to replace it with, the only thing besides ANOTHER Max is a Lexus GS 300/400, problem is they are more than I'd like to spend on a car that I depreciate so quickly (due to the miles). The more economical alternative I'm thinking about is a VR6 Jetta, but not sure if I could live with the smaller car after driving a Max for the past 6 years. Something else to consider is re-sale with high miles, the Max holds pretty well, MUCH better than American badged competitors - just look at the Sunday paper. Good luck, I don't think you'll regret getting a Maxima.

My brother has a '89 5-spd that has 435,000 miles on it. The engine and transmision have never been rebuilt. Besides a few water pumps/ alternators/ clutches/ shocks and a fuel pump, the car has been great. He worked for a compnany for 5 years after he got it and drove cross country more times than I can remember. He doesn't drive it much anymore, but he has held on to it to see how long it will go. Amazingly, it is still a fun car to drive. I know it's not the same engine that you are talking about, but I thought I would share.

Oh, he does drive a '02 5-spd now.

Whatever you do, DON'T GET A JETTA. You like problem free? Not the car for you. And it is much smaller inside than the Maxima..

Japanese cars, for the most part, are all EXCELLENT in terms of lasting a long time and to high mileage. It has to do with the engineering philosophies and standards to which they're built by the Japanese. This is why I only consider Japanese cars.

My old Camry lasted to over 200k miles with hardly any problems and then it was sold.

My mom's old 85 Camry lasted to 140k with hardly any problems and then it was sold.

I put 30,000 miles on my Accord V6 in one year with no problems and then it was totalled (not by me )

My 99 Maxima that I got used at 44k seems very solid and I now have 48k on it.

Keep in mind that highway miles are the easiest possible miles that you can put on a car so I really wouldn't worry about it. At 4k/mo you really could change the oil by hours of operation (like commercial vehicles and equipment are serviced at) instead of miles!

Well here is some help. My Max has 230k on it. I drive the hell out of it everyday. And I mean, I DO NOT baby this car. I am always full throttle, racing it around. And it runs fine *Knock On Wood* it has its taps/rattles under the hood. But it is not too bad. And I still run with the 4th gen autos. Well, because I am auto too...

My wife's 96 auto has 133k on it - we bought it new. Only problem was a leaking oil pressure sending unit that was replaced under warranty - about $100. It runs as good as the day we got it.
