Got my recall done on my 2002 Maxima..

I have a question.
The accelerator pedal stopper still looks the same as it did before I went to the dealer today.
I asked the service guy and he told me they installed some sort of washer and that is all it needed.

Has anyone else got their accelerator pedal stopper recall done?

Thanks.

I believe they had to replace the stopper... That's what the recall notice calls for.

I had it done, but to tell you the truth, I did not do a before/after comparison of the stoppers.

I had the recall on my car done also and it is the same stop as before, i think all they did was add some washer.

someone on altima.net said the new stopper makes it so you can't press your pedal down as far as before thus less acceleration

is this true?

the new stopper is wider not taller
same acceleration not less
IT's wider because the old one can allow the pedal to be pushed beyond the max point. Therefore it can mess up the potentiometer's readings and cause the computer to think you're not stepping on the gas at all... This is why it is recalled because if you need to accelerate quick to get out of a situation, you won't be stuck...

The stop doesn't affect your acceleration, it's a safety stop, the "old" one wasn't wide enough and the pedal could slip off the side of the stop when the pedal was forcefully pushed to the floor causing the engine to overrev, causing an engine fault in which the rpm's would drop and a loss of vehicle control would occur which could lead to a crash.

In March of last year people were talking about the accelerator pedal on the 2002. I have a 2002 Auto SE that the VIN number did not fall into the range of recalls but when I would hit the accelerator hard on the interstate, my accelerator would stop working and I would have to coast to the shoulder and reset the ECU with that ridiculous sequence of pedal pushes and such. Just to clarify, I bought the standard cover accelerator stop(18158-2Y905) and the new stop(18158-2Y965). The new stop is the same width(52.59mm) but the standard stop is 50.65mm tall versus the new stop is 60.96mm tall.
