Opinion needed on tints

I have a 2002 Sterling Mist GLE and have been contemplating what kind of tints to get, I want to get something different, and a few days I was parked next to an E 55 AMG, and he had very light blue tints, I was just wondering what you guys think about me putting those tints on my MAX and if anyone knows if they're available, since I only see them on AMG Mercedes.

Re: Opinion needed on tints

It's tint alright... thermal tinted glass that is. It's made like that out of the factory so if you want it to look exactly like it you'll have to have one custom made.

The 2k2 max comes with green tint though it's not as obvious but it does help block out the heat.

Go for metallic based tints to complement your stock tint. But get the good quality kind as some so-called "metallic" tints tend to provide nothing but light rejection and no UV and heat protection.

Also, unless you want to change tint every couple of years don't go for dye based ones (like 3M)

not sure about baby blue tints with a sterling mist car, might look weird. just go with regular black tint, can't go wrong with that.

I know most manufacturers make limo black tint but it's dye based, not metallic.

Additionally, in TX the legal limit is 35% if i remember correctly. I was able to get away with 32 in the back doors and 20 in the rear window. Doesn't seem that dark to me.

Miss being able to use 5%.

Just thought I'd throw this ? in here as long as we're talkin about tints. I got my 2k2 max tinted 2 weeks ago at 20%. The guy said he was putting on a metallic based tint. Now, I dont know if this guy's tint is s***ty or something but it looks greenish. My interior is frost and it totally looks green for some reason not to mention you can see everything from the outside. The same guy did the tint on my Intrepid <--black interior and it looks black..absolutely no green appearance. What do you guys suggest I do? You think going to 5% all around will get rid of the green appearance? Is this guy using crappy tint? He says he uses "Johnson's" brand film. What should I do?

yeah there's quite a few manufacturers who have metallic-based tints.. can't think of them off the top of my head.. but do a search and you'll find plenty.

hmm, strange that u see green in the tints.. what color car u have? maybe something reflected in the background? 5% all around is pretty dark, for sure you will get nailed for that. i've heard of johnson's but don't know about their quality.. check out www.tintdude has lots of good info.

If there's a slight greenish tint again that's the treated glass that the 2k2 has out of the factory. If blue is what MB's have, Green is what the Max has.

I own a sterling mist 2k2 and I got it tinted at 33%(legal in SC) with what was formerly know as "platinum tint", not sure what it is called now. When the sun hits it just right the tint matches the car almost perfectly. But now i have to go get the right rear redone because the dealership screwed it up trying to fix the wind noise.
As far as blue tint? eh..... I have seen it on a green VW gti. It was done by GNP out of NC. The car looked really smooth, but I don't know about on a silver car.
