Good luck. I spent an hour trying to get rid of the rattling from the subwoofer. The dealer said, "all cars do that when you turn the radio up too loud." I know it's complete BS but it was their way of saying "oh well for you, we're not doing a thing."

ya Im trying to get under the rear deck so i can dynamat it... but so far i cant seem to figure out how to take it off

by the way.. that site http://www.fourthrock.com/maxima/reardeckrattleinstall/ only applies to 2000/2001 maximas because nissan only put three screws on the bose's rectangular mount piece

I am having the same problem with my 2k2. I've done the rattle fix with the velcro, it helped a lot but not with DMX CDs. Damn him and the extra bass thrown on at the studio. Anyhow, post to let me know how the dynamat goes!

Re: HELP!! 2k2 Bose Rattle

Hey, I don't have the bose woofer, but i have 2 - 12" aluminums in the trunk that hit pretty hard. First I would see if it's coming from the spot where the rear decklid meets the rear window. Turn up a song with bass and then stick you fingers between the window and the ****lid and see if the rattle goes away. If not what I did was

1. fold down the rear seats
2. pop off all the plastic push in holders along the black plastic trim.
3. Remove those and set aside
4. The rear decklid also has those pop in holders, so it pops up.
5. I dynamated everything except the holes where the pop in holders go
6. I put everything back together.
7. When everything is back together, keep the rear seats down
8. Have someone push DOWN the rear decklid so you can see where the pop in holders come down on the underside.
9. Put in a small screw horizontally thru the end of the pin. like this... the screw is the little line i drew and the V is the pop in holder -V like that.
This will hold it down, and will not let the pin pop up.
10. On my car most of the rattle came from the rear decklid hitting against the rear window. If this is the case, Buy thick weather stripping.
11. Apply weatherstripping at the point where the rear decklid and the window meet. Apply a long strip, from corner to corner. Squeeze it in there.
12. If rear light rattles, apply stripping between glass and 3rd light.
13. Let us know how it went.

Hope this helps.

Anyone find any solutions to this with the BOSE? The velcro helped, except with hard hitting bass. That's still a mess. I'm thinking dynomatting the rear deck may be in order, could someone with a 2K2 explain how they accomplished this?

Yeah there is a link, it's the velcro strip how-to. I did that, helped like 20% of the way. It works awesome for rock, electronic, ect. but rap is still rattling away. Kinda sucks, a grand for a stereo system and it sounds like I have a snake who doesn't like my Jurassic 5 CD!

You should try the instructions I posted... I seriously have no rattle coming from my system and I listen to lots of rap. At times the only rattle I have is my third light bulb. I think I will get rid of my 3rd light and get a new decklid without the 3rd light hole.

Sorry, I didn't know u had a 2K2. I'll try those instructions out, sounds interesting. When you put in dynamat, where'd u put it? I've never had to install dynamat before, is it secured with taping, or what?

Screw the Bose sub

I also had massive base rattle in my 2k1se with bose.
I did the velcro thing - but did it with double-stick foam
This fixed about 75% of the problem.

Then I screwed the Sub!

Now there is almost ZERO RATTLE and the bass is much tighter.
You can actually hear more than one note out of the unit - much to my surprise.

There are 3 holes holding the sub's frame to the rear deck.
There is a 4th hole that is not used.

I inserted a sheet metal screw (about a #8 x 3/4") into this after drilling a small starter hole to make things easy. I made it fairly tight, but felt it was becoming over-clamped when very tight.

This ook less time than the Velcro fix. Hardest part was finding the perfect screw. (Isn't it always that way! )

Note - Your mileage may vary.
Please be advised - I'm writing from memory - did this about 2 months ago. Don't use too long of a screw. Execute at your own risk.

Good Luck
FredA

Interesting idea. Anyone know if the 2K2 had this extra hole for a screw or no?

Take out the Bose sub and use the hole as a port (unless you fold your seats down with a new sub)

Although, the metal rods that hold up the trunk lid still rattle.. as does a lot of the trunk lid, even with sound deadener applied. Oh well..
