New '02 - Proper Breakin Suggestions?

I just received my '02 Sterling Mist 6 Spd this morning (first post - alkthough I've been lurking in the shadows for a few days). Man I love that car.

My question is, what's the best break-in technique? I've heard of a quick oil and tranny fluid change after 750 miles to remove the early metal shavings and others say to wait (ie Honda with some special break-in additives in the fluids). I plan on driving this thing 150,000 plus, so i want to start out right. Thanks for the advice in advance. I plan on sitting back in the old Lazy-boy tonight with the owners manual, but would prefer some real world advice.

(Suggestion - this would be a good FAQ topic)

just..

do what the manual says. no additives or break in oil is used. Don't mess with tranny fluid. You might change early on the oil, but thats opinion. I changed at 1750 just to be on the safe side. I seriously doubt you would find much metal in the first oil anyway. Those engines are microfinished and polished.

Re: Re: just..

Basically the initial x miles where you drive a car a certain way to allow all of the parts to seat in properly. This has been shown to help an engine last a long, long time. Until you get through this period, you can do some minor damage by really pushing the engine too hard.

I believe there's a book titled "Drive it Forever" which goes through the principle well.

actually...

the drivetrain needs it as much if not more than the engine.. hence that whole 60mph thing.

Can't use search *OR* take a joke...

Look out. We're in for a load of "oil change/best mods/what's your favorite color" threads.

(ducks to avoid "slick 50 testimonial")
