Brake Shake

I had my 2000 Max rotors cut six months ago and the shuddering is now worse than ever. Does Max have to replace the rotors and pads or am I out of luck?

If you just had your rotors turned and they were done unevenly (would cause shake) take it back to the shop and raise hell. If there isn't room to turn them again, they might be liable to buy you new rotors. This happened with one of my old cars. "Max" or Nissan will not replace rotors or pads under normal wear and especially if some non-nissan shop fudged them up.

Get to know you local BBB.

The brakes were great after they were cut. I believe they were done correctly by Nissan. The only issue is why does this happen in the first place? The metal used to manufacture the rotors must be prone to this type of heat related warping. Why else would Nissan have issued the TSB in the first place? If they cut them a second time, I fear that it will only happen again. Not the type of problem for a flagship vechile!

I didn't realize Nissan did the work through a TSB. I think you have a case for replacement under warranty. I haven't experienced this prob ('01 GXE). Have you contacted the dealer yet?

Re: Re: Re: Brake Shake

if it is warped once, it might have a higher chance of warping again. Cutting and sanding is not a good way to correct the problem, nor turning the rotors. The best way to correct it is to replace it and I dun think that they can cut ur rotor again if it is already too thin.
My friend's new Accord had warped rotors for 2 times and the interval was like 7000 miles between the frist time and the second. The problem is not our driving style (if it is, they wouldnt generate a TSB and have it stated "rotors are covered under bumper to bumper....
" It is obviously the quality of the rotor.
I just had mine warped @ 23k and ready to go back to the dealer this Satruday. Hopefully they will cover it.

here is a good link of an overview on brake and rotor. posted by 2k2se6spd

hopefully this will help.

Just heard back from my dealer. they replaced the rotors but put the same pads on them!!!! I have 24,000 miles on my car and was blown away that they didn't change the pads. Maybe this Lexus service reputation has some merit to it!!!

OK....I got my car back from the dealer yesterday and he "agreed" to put on new front rotors. Gee Thanks! I was a bit suprised that he didn't replace or "ask" to replace the pads given the fact that #1 I have 24,000 miles on my Max. #2 Each time they cut the rotors and now repalced them the pads need to be re-burnished (2 times now). I honestly don't understand why they waste so much time and don't even call you until after the work is done. My fingers are crossed that my steering wheel doesn't shake again.

I also have had brake judder problems since mile 1. Had the Brake Judder TSB done at 11k. Had to have it done again at 35k. Wanted it done before no longer covered. Dealer gave me a hard time. They said they only do it once, then I have to pay. I called 1800Nissan1, who got the dealer to do the fix for free. This fixed the problem for a short while. Am now at 40k and judder is worse than ever!

At 35k, Service Manager said I abused the brakes because they were blue. I don't race the car and have never had to replace brakes on ANY car before 100k. I do 95% highway driving. If the rotors are blue, it is a manufacturing flaw, NOT abuse!

Next rotors will NOT be Nissan OEM's.

it shouldnt look blue if someone abuse it, I think it should look more black and it is not shiny at all. I am going to get my rotor fixed this saturday. called couple dealers, only one of them would do it....the others said that brake is a part of preventive mantainance parts, so they dun cover it..
