I'm thinking of replacing my Bose speakers. I want speakers that have a good, crisp sound. The Bose speakers just really sound bland even with the treble turned all the way up. I really like a lot of clear treble. Bass is really not that important to me. I was thinking of keeping the Bose sub and just replacing the other speakers with something else and maybe adding an amp to maybe improve the clarity of the speakers. I don't know much about the mechanics (wattage, etc.) of stereo systems. I've always had good experiences with JBL speakers in my house and computer speaker systems but I have never heard much about their car audio speakers.

Anybody out there got JBL's?

JBL's are okay. Though they're part of the Harmann family and supposedly more higher end, i personally like the Infinity better. When it comes to amps however i'd take the JBL anyday (80.4 is an awesome amp and it's rated at 12v so you actually get more out of it once installed).

My suggestion is to audition the speakers yourself. If you really want to go all-out i'd recommend the Focal's. Probably one, if not *the*, of the best sets out there today.

You may want to also look into JL or even MB quart components to replace the Bose speakers.

Focals are goood . Friend of mine bought pair for his WRX and also couple others for rear. Sorry, can't recall his rears brand but they were midrange speakers pricewise. So, he has a problem now - those Focals in front + sub sound better than all of them together . This is quite easy to notice that he's decided to get rid of his rears even they are not cheap ones. Amplifier was the same, 4 X 35 Microdimension, I believe.

I used to work for a place that sold JBL's . I had them for a while, but I bought MB Quart and those things were AWESOME. P ersonally recommend them . The TITANIUM tweeters in the JBL's are way to high, specially if powered by a good amp. They are good speakers, but I would recommend MB Quart.... Just my opinion ,,,

JBLs require a lot of juice to work well. I had 5 1/4 up front back in the day, and my Pioneer 6x9s would dwarf them. They were not worth the $100 in my opinion. They even had the adjustable tweeter... but I think they over-rate (lie about) the wattage.

The new Cerwin Vegas sound like home audio components. But I would stick with Infinity components. (haven't heard, but good reviews)

Your choices are many. If you want serious sound without spending way too much, look for a good place to get some Infinity Perfects (component series), and combine them with a JBL P80.4 amp -- very nice setup.

Later, if you want to add subs, grab Infinity Perfects again (10s or 12s), and another JBL amp (BP300.1, BP600.1, BP1200.1 -- depending on the number and size of subs).

hmm, a lot of people are recommending the quarts. they aren't bad speakers, but you need to go listen to them in person, cause some people think they are a bit harsh. focals are also good.

i'm going to go with the digital design 6.5w as the midrange, and the vifa xt25 as for the tweeter. no rear speakers.

i have JBL speakers on my 12,500 98 lincoln continental i dont think they are that great

Dont get MBQuarts if you're planning on running them off the stock headunit...
They need a SUPER-CLEAN amp to push them or they will blow SUPER-EASILY, especially the tweeters...

JBL's can handle all the distortion you can throw at them...

In the past I've had a lot of experience with car audio. I never got into the whole SPL thing and making it so loud nobody can think. I was into sound quality as I am now. Depending on your budget I'd honestly go for the new Alpine SPX-177A seperates. I'm in the process of buying a new car and the bose system in the Maxima leaves me very unsatisfied with its performance.

*edit, just talked to a buddy of mine at Car Toys and Bose no longer runs off a 32ohm system anymore so you can change speakers all you like! Woot!*

No highs, no lows, must be Bose, and its mostly true, but they added a sub to fix the low end, but they have jack shat for highs. Really the only thing I dont like about the car, if it wasnt in there I'd love it 100%.

Ok, enough rambling, to answer your question, Yes JBL makes some good equipment, and they have some very nice speakers for bright high's, but if you pick the wrong speaker you will end up very disapointed. I'm not a big MB Quart guy, sure they're nice and all, but not my style of music, the Boston Pro's are nice too but again not what I like. I'm more into warm smooth vocals with bright crisp, but not harsh high's. I think you'll like the JBL's if you get the Power Series P632 (low end) or the GTO605C (mid end) I think you'll be very happy, but make sure to go there and listen to them. Take some CD's that you like to listen to as its your ears that will have to hear them, and dont let them push you into going to something you do not like the sound of. Listen at volume's that you would listen to, and if your not going to add a huge sub in there make sure they turn the sub off so all you hear is the JBL's.

I've got JBL's all the way around. It sounds much better than stock, but it is not in the same league as focal or quart, but they are also much cheaper. The infinity kappa's are also nice, but a little more expensive. To be honest, it doesn't take much to set speakers that sound much better than stock. Mine were only like $100 a pair.

Thanks man! I did some checking and the nearest JBL dealer is an hour and a half away. I have had Alpine speakers that I was very pleased with in the past. I think I am going to go listen to the ones you mentioned.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the Bose Speakers are still amplified in the Maxima, or are at least believed to be, so a small speaker amp may be in order just fyi. I went over and listened to those Alpines yesterday and really liked them, sounded very nice to me for my music style and the way I like it, so I think you'll be happy. Also, go check out Alpine's website to see what ya see.
