2k2 Oil Filter and Drain / Fill Plug Toruqe Specs?

I just ordered a couple of oil filters from Courtesy Nissan and they sent me 9E000 filters... From the searches I've done, it sounds like they should be a direct replacement for what's on there now, but I was wondering if any of you have actually installed / used these yet on the 3.5L motor?

Also, being that I'm really **** about this stuff, what are you supposed to torque (ft/lbs) the oil pan drain plug AND manual transmission (6-speed of course) drain and fill plugs to?

Thanks in advance!

Transmission Drain/Fill Plug => 23-28 ft-lb
Oil Pan Drain Plug => 22-29 ft-lb
Oil Filter => 11-15 ft-lb

Don't know about the filter model number (I dont remember). I went to a local dealer and got one for around 8 bucks. I just asked them for an oil filter for a 02 Max.

GTB, don't forget to pick up some copper crush "o"-rings (like 50 cents a piece) for your drain plug. Nissan remcommends replacing them each time you change your oil. I haven't done a change yet (only 450 miles on her) but I've already picked up a couple of filters (and copper "o' rings) from my local Nissan dealer. Let us know how your oil change goes!

Thanks for the info everybody! I got the copper washers when I got the filters, so I should be good to go there...

As far as the filter question goes, from the search results I've seen, people seem to feel that the 9E000 should be a direct replacement (if a little longer than the "stock" filter), but I was wondering if anybody has actually used it with the 3.5L yet? From what I read, people were talking about using it, but hadn't actually tried it yet...

It's nice to be part of a community with such helpful people

I've used both the "long" and short filter..which has the listings for the Sr20 motors on the box.. The 9E000 came with my 2k2 se maxima..and when i went to nissan and simply asked for a 2k2 oil filter..theh handed me one that was 3/4" shorter..but it also works..i just preffer the longer one.

On my 2002, it originally had on filter part 15208-65F01. Local dealer sold me part 15208-65F00. Says same filter, just a part number change (confirmed on his computer parts list). I can't believe how small this filter is!

I might be left field on this one but I would be carefull about what oil filter to use on ANY Nissan that is equipped w/ varible cam timing. Nissan saw fit to designate different filters for Nissans w/ cam phasing tech. ie.. VE30DE, Q45, JDM sr20's, VG30DE and DETTs etc... Not that different filters wouldn't work(they do) but I'm just suggesting that you make sure the filter is correct for your car. Just becuse the dealer hands you a filter doesn't mean it's correct. I had a Nissan dealer hand me a filter for a VG30 when I needed one for my VE30DE. I said,"uh this is not the right one". He said " yes it is". I said, "take another look". He said, "oops sorry".

Best suggestion is to find out what came on the motor and use that Nissan p/n.

I haven't had a chance to check out the exact location of the filter (though I'm told it's behind the passenger tire). The dealer gave me the "shorter" filters which for me means it will be easier to remove/install. I bought an oil wrench cap and it seems that the shorter the filter is, the more clearance I should have to get the oil cap wrench on in order to remove it. Again, let us know how your oil change turns out.

So Nissan is actually installing 2 different oil filters on our 2k2's from the factory? That's pretty wild...

Anybody else want to chime in on this one?

Thanks!

Well, did the oil change today and my car had a 65F01 from the factory... I went ahead and installed the 9E000 based on what others have said and based on the fact that the oil I just put in will only be in there for 1,750 miles. For future oil changes I think I'm going to try and get some 65F01's to put in rather than the 9E000's just because they're what came with my car to begin with...

Thank you all again for your help

FYI, I'll be out of town till Wednesday night and won't have access to a computer until I get back. Just in case you were trying to reach me regarding this post...

The filter is indeed facing the passenger side front tire... It wasn't much of a clearence issue getting in there with either filter, just move the plastic cowl out of the way and you should have plenty of room. Based on what others said, I also got a filter wrench and it really saved my bacon... The factoy filter was on there really tight!

Hope this helps...

GTB G2, thanks for the good info...it always seems that the factory always makes sure that the filter is on good and tight (always a PITA the first time).
Two questions:

1) Did you use a filter cap wrench and was there enough room to get it in there?

2) you said you had to move a plastic cowl out of the way (i.e. you don't have to remove it, do you?)

Thanks!

To answer your questions:

1. I did use a filter wrench (clamp style) to remove the factory filter and there was plenty of room to do it...

2. That is correct... There is what basically amounts to a plastic splash shield that protects the filter area from road spray that you simply have to move aside to get to the filter. Nothing needs to be removed...

Hope this helps!

GTB G2, again thanks. I did purchase some oil filter pliers and they can easily get up into the oil filter area to remove the filter. Of course, there will always be a small mess of oil to clean up (i.e. the oil that drips into the well of the splash shield).
I plan on changing the oil in several weeks (still only have about 600 miles on her...breaking her in easy).
