Fuel Flap Problem

As I was filling my tank today I noticed that there is no little flap on the hole that you put the gas nozzle through on my car. I seem to remember having one and almost every other car I've seen has one. Did mine break off? That would really suck. Has anyone had this problem, or does the maxima just not have a flap there?

So far several of us have noticed this.

I don't know for sure if the Max came with one. I thought for sure it did and one day I heard a "clank" that sounded like you pop the tab off a beer can, so when I looked there was no flap.

Anyone confirm the Maxima comes with a fuel flap yet?

Yeah, I didn't have one on my 2000 SE and don't have one in 2002 SE now. So I think it is ok.

But what I did notice that I get all sort of dirt from the road right near the gas cap.

I remember somebody posted that there was a fix for that?

Yeah, that's the infamous "fuel shroud". Some Maximas actually came with one. Mine didn't.

Oil! A dab on all moving parts will do. Haven't had the problem since.
