Applied VINS?

Could somebody tell me how to match "applied vins" and "applied engine #"?
I have 2000 SE, which I bought in Dec.99, but I don't know how to match my VIN against those, supplied by TSB. First 8 positions match, but the rest does not, what does it mean?
(but I do have a detonation and never used anything but SUPER)

Thank you.

I have the detonation problem as well, but I don't give a fu<k about VIN's. Nissan is going to fix my ****! I had the service manager ride with me last time I took it to them. He was in the car and heard it and said I was using cheap gas. Well I guess that Exxon Super is considered cheap gas. I will be taking it to another dealer (farther away) to have my rear calipers fixed as well.

My 3rd attempt to fix detonation....
I took my car to the dealer a few days ago. I could not believe it...he ordered 6 coils for me without even test driving a car!
Had them replaced yesterday. Dear God, thank you!!!

yup...showing them the TSB will be the last thing that u want to do. I ****ed a service rep off by showing them the brake TSB and I just go to other dealer. I pretended that I was stupid and didnt know why my steering wheels are rattling at high speed braking. that worked.

Depends on what kind of person the service writer is... when I took mine in for brake judder, he at first indicated I would have to pay but I (somewhat timidly) mentioned I thought there was a TSB indicating warranty covered it. He immediately asked if I knew the number... I said wait a minute and pulled it out of my glove box... he was one happy man and wrote it up failing even to note it was specific to 2k's and I had a 2k1! In my case, my service writer just LOVED it that I did his job for him, saving him a trip to parts to research the TSB.

Then again, there are those who can't handle having their authority and expertise challenged... those have to be handled differently.
