Question to 2002 6-speed Maxima owners...

After all that recent posts that some people had their 6-speed transmissions replaced and clutches replaced. I got kinda worried maybe my 6-speed transmission is defective too.

Now, my car drives fine. When I engage in the gear it feels fine and I don't hear any strange noises coming from the clutch. My car has about 4000 miles now and shifter feels smoother than before. I guess it is broken in more now.

Now, I started noticing this sound and I think it is normal, is when say I am driving about 45 mph in 4th or 5th gear and I remove my foot from the accelerator, so the car starts to decelerate. As rpms going down, I hear that kind of whining noise. It sounds like an engine sound I think. And it is not loud or anything.

Has anybody noticed that on their 2002 6-speed, or other 5-speed manuals Maximas? Is that normal you guys think?

I think I had the same sound on my 2000 Maxima SE with 5-speed manual.

Thanks.

i havent noticed that but ill keep it in mind next time i am in my car.

as far as people having tranny and clutch problems, i think only 1 person (willse) had his tranny replaced and only 1 person (i forget who) had his clutch replaced. dont let it bother you.

I am having my clutch replaced and there has been one other member that I know of who has had this done also. The problem I was having was obvious as I released the clutch. There was a squeal that could not be missed.

It sounds like your tranny is in good shape with normal sounds. Be thankful and rest assured if there is a problem there will be no doubt in your mind. It will be very obvious.

Yeah, I have no noises when releasing the clutch on my 2002 6-speed. I guess it is good.

Interesting thing though, on my 2000 SE 5-speed that I sold I had this noise that your are desribing I think. It would happen when releasing the clutch. It was this LOUD squeal when I was releasing the clutch in 1st gear. I thought that was because my clutch was wearing down or something. I drove my 2000 SE 5-speed pretty hard

That noise you hear is normal. It's Manual Tranny Gear Whine. In my opinion it's normal since all of the manual FWD cars I have had do it.

I had my clutch replaced at 4000 miles, for a similar reason. It would make noise as I disenguaged the clutch (but only when it was cold outside). I took it to my Nissan dealer and they ordered me a new one. Ever since the new one has been in (3000 miles now), I've had no problems, but have been hesitant to go to the track just yet. I am waiting on the PlaceRacing CAI to come from CustomMaxima.com to arrive. Then I will go to the track and post some numbers.

What kind of noise was your clutch making?

It made a noise similar to an impact wrench at the end of it's drive. You know, like "burrrrrrrrrrrrrr-urgh". More the "urgh" and less of the "burrrrrrrrrrrrrr".

so it was more of the "urgh" than the "burrrrrrrrr", because mine is making a noise kinda like if you barely left your ebrake on. it is very subtle kinda like. "wwwwwwhhhoooooouuuuunnnpppppppp", no where near the squealing like other people have had. anyone else having this,
it happens when the car is cold and going into first gear, like pulling out of a driveway
