Nissan Consumer Affairs won't help me. Herb Gordon Nissan in Silver Spring, MD won't work on the car since Rosencrap messed with the clutch. I am trying to claim MD Lemon Law on this bad boy and purchase another car. First thing make sure your dealer has working knowledge of 2k2 Maxes. Second, check on their reputation. Call Nissan Consumer Affairs and ask questions. Third, Cover your a$$, you never know what could happen. Fourth, make sure the clutch that is installed in your car has been produced for the 2k3 model year. The design has changed from the 2k2 clutch assembly. In the new clutch the lubricant is different, the throw out bearing has been redesigned, and the flywheel has been improved. I am trying to get a third clutch installed from the 2k3 model year.
I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs today regarding the clutch in my 2K2. I wanted to verify your comments about the 2K3 clutches. Consumer Affairs promised me a call back regarding the clutch fitment within about 3 days. My dealer has already agreed to replace my clutch, but I doubt he ordered the parts from a 2K3. Would you mind sharing how you can be certain that the 2K3 clutch will fit and work properly with the 2K2? I am also curious to learn how you found out about the improvements to the 2K3 clutch? If the clutches for the two years are interchangeable and the 2K3 unit is enhanced/upgraded, then wouldn't Nissan only recommend that 2K2 vehicles needing new clutches get the 2K3 clutch? I have to admit that this is a terrific idea and I want to thank you for the info . . . I will post back anything that I learn . . .

I just figured it out!

i've been trying to figure out how to recreate the clutch squeal and this weekend during a trip to the beach it hit me. --> whenever i hold the clutch pedal in for more than say, a minute, as in stop and go traffic it will start to squeal. as soon as i stop holding it in by leaving it in neutral the noise will stop in less than a minute. i'm guessing it's some oil starvation problem that only happens after the clutch has been held in for an extended period of time.

btw i'm terrified to take it to the dealer.
