as in the previous VQ series, 4th gen and 222hp 5th gen?

I have heard that the auto tranny was the same as the 2k and 2k1, but I spoke to Ali who rented a 2k2 auto for a trip. He said that the 2k2 was much nicer and shifted cleanly. He thought it was much better that the2k and 2k1.

I'd hope it's different or improved...just for the sake of handling the extra power. But it also make me wonder why they didn't shoot for the 5spd auto.

It is new for 2K2 ... same general design, but beefed up with stronger components to handle the extra power (plus the gated shifter "feature"). The 2K2 Altima SE shares the automatic tranny with the Max and I35.

I don't know how much truth there is to saying the 2k2 tranny is beefed up a little. I could be wrong, but I think it's the same as 2k-2k1. When Don did me and Eric's vb mod, he took the time to note any differences in the tranny and its valve body. He said they were exactly the same (feel, look, ect...). Don has worked on several 5th Gen maxes, so unless there's something he's missing I'll have to go with them being the same tranny besides the gated shifter.

It definately is stronger and it shifts so much better than my old 01 auto.

I'm thinking maybe it's the TC and everything else in there that's been beefed up. I don't think you can see the TC just from taking out the VB. I could be wrong though.

ahhh, I forgot about the TC, I don't remember Don mentioning anything about it either--the gated shifter does make it easier to manually shift so I'm hoping Nissan took that into account as well as the extra power when they made the tranny

the fact that this is my only 'issue' with my max makes me realize how much I love it--if someone asks you what you don't like about your car and all you can say is that "the back windows don't roll down all the way", you KNOW you've found the right car

It's a "feature" to prevent the inside of your rear windshield from becoming bug splattered.
