02 Wind Noise

The wind noise coming from the rear window in my Maxima is beginning to annoy me. Every time someone drived in the back seat they complain about the noise.

For the price I paid for this car there shouldn't be wind noise... If I can't get this noise fixed I am selling my Maxima.

Re: 02 Wind Noise

melteye, take it to the dealer and tell them that you want them to replaced the weatherstripping around the door. But first, have someone sit in the back or better yet do it yourself and have a friend drive and then you definitely listen for the noise and see if it's coming from around the top of the door...or the window yourself so that you can give them a starting point. Believe me, a bent or misplaced piece of weatherstripping can be the culprit.

make sure to call Nissan North America if the dealership gives you any trouble--and let the dealership know you're gonna call too
good luck

wind noise tsb

This is what the dealer will probably do, don't know how much it helps.

Someone made mention of a new wind noise tsb being worked for the 2002's, but haven't heard anything lately on that.

Re: wind noise tsb

You would think that if NISSAN was aware of this problem back in May of last year and published the TSB then that they would have solved the problem before building any 2002 models.

WHAT! And actually admit that there is a problem....goes against everything Nissan believes in!

You know, Colonel, you may be right. Come to think of it, GM knew they had a problem with the column lock on the C5 Corvette for 4 years before they attempted to do anything about it. Now, everytime I start her up I pray that it doesn't happen to me (otherwise it's a quick call for a trip to the dealership on a flatbed).

Sigh...wish I could afford one as I really like the C5 and its possible mods. I would be FUELED if I spent that much on a car and it column locked up and would not allow me to drive.... Yikes!

i wonder why no one has custom soundproofed their car and not for their system, but for windnoise. if someone did a write-up for that i would surely do it. it sucks that my sisters 02 g20 is quieter inside than my 2k max se. i'd try it myself, except, i dont know jack about cars.

I have the same problem and it is driving me crazy. I took it to the dealer, they said they never heard of this problem, like I was the first one to complain. They replaced all the rubber around the windows. It took 2 months for the parts to get in. I still hear it. I don't know if its coming from the window or around the bottom of the door. My brother has a 2001 and it has the same problem. You would think Nessan would of fixed this in 2002. They must know about it by now.I am thinking of selling it. Only 5000 miles on it.

I had the Wind Noise TSB done on my 2K1 SE

I still whistles sometimes. They added the foam behind the stripping like the TSB said. I took it back a second time and they said that the foam was in place correctly. I guess I'll have to live with it. Disappointing for a near 30K car.

When I fist took the car in for the TSB, they said that I was the first complaint they have ever had. They didn't even know about the Wind Noise TSB. I brought a copy with me and they said, "Where did you get that?". I told them I got it on the org. Now fix it!

It will be 100% fixed monday. I located exactly where it was, I can press on the inside and make the wind noise stop. The molding was visibly damaged and the guys at the nissan service where nice.

What I did and it worked

I had the same wind noise in my 2000 I30. I followed the TSB but instead of using tape I use clear caulk to seal the inside of the seals around the rear door. Worked like a charm.
