Follow what your manual says...or if your too lazy to read then here you go.

Rules for the first 1000 miles or so.
-Never accelerate extremely hard
-Never drive extended periods of time at the same RPM. Like highway
travel. You want to vary your speed and RPM's constantly
-Try not to slam on brakes extremely hard, or over use your brakes
(mountain rds)
Reasons
You don't want to accerate very hard or drive at the same RPM because you engine has to "Seat" which in lamens terms that means every thing settles into place. I.E. all your seals.

I am not sure why you can't slam on brakes, but I just know that your not supposed to.

This is the procedure that I followed on my 2k2 and it is running fine, and I have 11,000 miles on it.

I hope this helps

given the trouble we've had...

take extra care with the transmission, auto or manual. You are breaking it in too.. be nice to it.
