Back from the track and have questions...

it was 85 degrees and humidity wasn't helping--my best was a 14.86? with a 2.226 60' but I can't find the timeslip and don't remember my trap sp. (I wanna say 92.7 but don't really know)--

these times are with the Frankencar intake, Don's Vb mod and 18X8 tantrums (about same weight as stock BUT 18s)--so here's my second best

R/T 1.136
60' 2.243
330 6.260
1/8 9.574
MPH 74.67
1000 12.456
1/4 14.904
MPH 92.27

oh and I had full audio, spare tire, and no messing with pressure
I stuck 2.24 60's the whole time with one 2.22, no torque braking, I basicallly just quickly and gradually stepped on the gas for the launch and then had it to the floor for the rest--I had some great races with a Thunderbird (I won, he did 15.4), a WRX (I lost, he got 14.5@95 with a boost controller and a V2 something or other), a 2k1 Mustang GT with exhaust mods and some funky intake (auto, I won, but he had a better time @ 14.7), and I lost the rest to endlessly modded cars

Questions: It seems like my times should be much lower with the 60' times I'm getting, what do ya'll think, am I lacking something on the top end? the K&N on my Frankencar is kinda small, would a bigger filter help at all in the high end w/o hurting down low? And let's say I sell my 18" tantrums and get some 17" Centerline RPMs, how much improvement do ya think I'll see?
thanks a million for any input,
Matt

Why didn't you say you were going to the track?! Been bored all night doing nothing.

Anyhow, i'm glad to see you actually broke into the 14's from your last run (which was significantly colder). How was traction for you this time?

Did you cool the manifold b4 running? I think you can do much better than the times you posted.

my bad, I wasn't even thinking tonight, next time I will definitely call--the WRX guy was really cool and spent a lot of time checking out the max I went to the track in shorts (you have to have long pants to race) so i had to leave and hunt down some pants amidst the smokestack scenery of Baytown, but it worked out ok--the first time I went it was about 50 degrees colder so I'm hoping on better times too, traction was fine except for a little wheelhop but it could've been better--the manifold was cooled when I ran 14.86 but it was warm----->hot the rest of the time

Why didn't you torque brake? Wouldn't you get better 60ft time if you torque brake?

I wish I could answer some of your questions, but my 2k2 Auto SE is stock, so I wouldn't know about the intake. I can say that your times will improve with a lighter weight wheel/tire combo (I've heard that while the Kumho's stick well, they are heavy), but who doesn't know that?

What I can provide insight on is your times. My car ran 15.102 @ 91.25, with 2.25 60' times on a mid-80 degree day (and about 1-1/2 hour wait in the staging lanes). I don't have my timeslip on hand (I'm at work), but from what I remember, my 1/8 time was maybe .2 slower and 1 to 1.5 mph slower. I really don't remember the other times. What I do remember is my trans was slipping bad on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. It seems to do that when the trans is cold. I know I would be in the 14's if the trans would just act right. And yes, I know I probably should just drop the 5 bills for the VB mod.

Comparing your ET and MPH with mine, I think you are spot on, power wise, with me. I say "with me" because I won't base all the 2k2's power output at what mine is putting out. Your MPH is the greatest indicator of HP. With the intake, you might get, what, 5-10 ponies? I don't know what that would equate to in MPH, but if you thought it would be more, you might be taking a step or two back with the wheel/tire combo, although you say that they are close to the weight of the stock wheels/tires. So it might be like 1/2 step back .

Now my questions for you: How many miles do you have on your ride? It seems that the consensus here is that these engines really hit their stride after 5k miles. Mine has almost 1500.

How has the VB mod affected your daily driving, like when your not on it? (I'm trying to convince the other half )

hmmm thanks for the post--I have 8800 miles--I don't think the vb mod helps if your tranny is slipping--the only time I feel like the shifts are too firm is when I'm in a parking lot or at least driving at that pace--the fact that the wheels are 18s also plays a role, I see myself getting the 17" RPMs in the near future--

Re: Back from the track and have questions...

What is your race weight? I'm betting you are pushing around 3450lb+ at the line. Considering the big wheels, no weight reduction you are running right were you *should* be. I recommend running 15in wheels with drag radials and try shifting at different rpm. With a 91-92mph trap your only turning like 4800-4900rpm in 3rd gear. If you decide to get 2 15in wheels for drag racing, go with some smaller diameter drag radials. That will improve your gearing and give you more torque multiplication.

those aren't bad for the temp and stuff. next time 20psi in the tires, brake torque and hope for a colder day,. 85 degrees is hot for track runs and those are good times for the conditions.

thx, I couldn't find the scale and no one else knew where it was, but I know they have one, I just didn't have time--I don't think I'm at 3450 lbs. though b/c my 18s wiegh about the same as my stock wheels and my tires are 26 lbs., which is the same weight my 17" Pilot Sport A/S's were--

my stereo weighs about 40 lbs. (sub included)now--when I ran stock I had between 150-200 lbs. of stereo in the trunk and under seats <----this is why I was thinking I would get better times

next time I think I'm gonna add the Dryer duct piping to direct air flow to the filter and see if that helps
thanks again guys

My best time just as driven everyday (warm) was 15.165 @ 91.8 with a 2.34 60ft time @ about 65 degrees 1900 miles 1/2 tank of fuel and I weight 235. I had only a Berk intake installed. My r/t was .612 on a .500 tree. I hope and pray that as the miles roll on that it'll loosen up and perform better.

that's wierd... my 1/4 time was lower but your 60' is in between my best and most common and your trap speed was only 4 tenths off

it seems like you should be in the 14s...wierd

turn your car off and open your hood and let it cool down--some people just put ice on it but you have to be careful if it's too hot

ya i strip out the car, rear bench, spare tire, everything non essential, lower psi and ice the intake. i keep a bucket on my passenger floor now cus i found out the ice bag likes to leak on yoru floor. change the ice every couple runs too.

Oh...Okay. I wasn't sure if it was some sort of technological "trick" I'd never heard of. Thanks.

Regarding the weight, I have a 2k2 SE Auto, fully loaded (except navigation). I left everything in the car (I wanted to get a good idea of the car's performance in the "everyday" mode) and with 1/4 tank of gas and me (190 lbs.) the car weighed in at 3485. Which puts the car and gas at just under 3300 lbs.
