Kyb's Don't Friggan Fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to my buddies place yesterday and tried to put on the fronts first, and they didn't ******* fit. They are off by almost a half inch when it connects up to the hub. I heard that these require some custom fitting. Do i just have the wrong ones, or do i need to custom fit something? Thanks

UUmm, did you buy the ones from Cattman or did you just get some 4th gen ones? If you just bought 4th gen ones then of course your going to have a problem, if you bought the cattman ones then something probably just went wrong with the install becuase they definatly fit.
About grinding the mounts, I think I am the only one who tried this and I grinding to much of the mount off. In order to make it work you probably can't grind off more then 2 mm. You can also just use your stock mounts and everything will work fine, the only problem is the strut bolt will not completly thread on. Grinding a little will make the thread go on completly.

Follow this link and you can see a whole bunch of pics. This album was inteded for cattman to see originaly when I was testing the protoyped setup. I put captions under the pics with what the issues were, everything is completly resolved now.

Heres the link of what need's to be done to the stock mounts, only difference is grind 2mm not what ever I said in the captions. There is captions under the pics here too, read them to get a better understanding of what I did.

EMAX95,
So you telling me from the pictures I looked at, the rear springs initially do not set all the way down? You just basically wait till they seat properly over a couple days or so? If so that is scammish, but I will bear with it if I need to.
How did you hook up the front brake line if that brake line holder was not there like on the stock struts?

Re: Re: what !!!!
Just talked to dean at stillen. He said that he sent me the shocks from a 4th gen, and that he spoke with kyb directly and their isn't a set that fit the 5th gen. I know cattman has the modified ones to fit the 5th gen. Should i just buy them from there, or just pick up the 4th gen front strut mounts and that should work? Thanks for the advice.

You can't make 4th gen KYB's fit a 5th gen, the mounts won't change anything. Cattman actually moddify's the struts.

ok so if i wanted to get the Kyb AGX for my 2000 max i would need to get the following and it would fit right in:
1. Cattman modified KYBs
2. 95-99 strut mounts
and it would bolt right on without any grinding or anything right? Also i could add the stillen camber plates without a problem too right? And my front strut bar would still fit right?
thanx

So that means I HAVE to buy these from Cattman? I can't do it myself?
And if I were to buy them from cattman, I would still have to modify them further!? WTf. =/.
I'm so confused... I know this is a recurring topic but everytime I see it no one really explains it clearly.
Ok can emax or chimpdj explain:
1. What parts are needed exactly.
2. Can 4th gen kyb struts be modified for 5th gens at home or by shop.
3. Why does cattman list 10358701398 parts for this, and which ones are actually essential.
If I were to buy the AGX, the strut mounts, and the dust boots, I think the total would surpass $600 dollars, at which it would be more cost effective to go with coilovers.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what !!!!
Let me give this a shot. I just completed this install on my 2000 GXE with Ground Control coilovers. You will have to purchase a 5th Gen set from Cattman in order to use the KYB AGX shock. He does all of the modifications to the shock. In order to properly install the shock you will have to purchase a 4th Gen mount or grind about 2mm from the original mount. I opted to grind the mount, fairly easy. As far as the boot, Cattman mentionned in some other thread that you could also use the original boot. Hope that help.
Parts:
1.Complete set of AGX 5th Gen from Cattman, don't bother attempting to modify the shock yourself. His fabricator does great work.
2. 4th Gen mount or grind the original mount.

I thought it was merely a fitment issue of the upper strut mounts, but since the 4th gen front shocks are completely different, I don't know if I wanna trust Cattman with that much modification. I wouldn't mind having some sort of warrantee or liability on the part of the manufacturer. I can imagine what KYB would say if they recieved a 5th gen modified strut in the mail for repairs. "WTF!!"

I just spoke to cattman and ordered my KYB's. They are all out of front strut mounts. The woman told me i have to buy them from nissan. I am assuming these are 4th gen front strut mounts and they will bolt right up? (Should have just bought some friggan tokico's, would have been easier!!)
