I want to swithc the insturment panel from an 2K2 I35 to my 2K2 SE....can it be done?
SubscribeI posted this earlier in the week in the general discussion forum, but didn't get alot of feedback. I really like the more sophisticated look of the Infinitis electro-luminesent panel. Can I simply remove the standard setup from my 2K2 Maxima and just 'plug and play' the one from an I35? Are the adapters similar? How much would this cost?

"the only problem with switching out gauges is that the true mileage is held in the original circuit board these next steps are how to switch out the circuit boards so that your true mileage shows on your new gauges." this is referring to a gxe to a se swap, but of course its still relevant to any other swap.
but other than fitment issues, you have to be concerned about circuit board compatibility (i dont know if it is compatible with the i35), keep this in mind!!
good luck.

I recently found that link....thanks!!! I may just ask the dealer when I get my oil changed in a few weeks. I assume the adapters are the same and all, but I'm fearful there is some wire that just wont fit.Originally posted by lcf

In that link - why does the gas gage in a disconnected instrument panel in the top of one of the pics say the tank is nearly full?

No, but I'm sure you can find it on the infiniti homepage.

You could probably do the swap but you never know if it's a direct fit unless you had access to the full service tech manuals for both cars that show all connectors and mechanical mounts (you might be able to talk a service tech into copying the appropriate pages at your local Infiniti dealer). Then even if they do swap cleanly there is the possibility of logic problems - your speedo could display 70 mph and the car is really doing 100 mph or something similar with the gas, temp gauges, etc. But given the propensity for cost cutting between similar cars my guess would be that the internal operating logic between the two different gauge sets would be the same.
Any idea how much would an Infiniti gauge set cost? And is the swap worth it? Also how much you think you could sell your SE gauge set for once you have a successful swap?
That does look pretty nice, the only problem is it tells you what gear your auto" is in. As you know that would be a bit strange considering we have a M/T.
