Made my own CAI, without cutting a hole. (pics up now)

I just finished up my CAI on my 2k2, and it worked out sweet, I only have about $50.00 wrapped up in it too, which makes it even sweeter. I should have pics up soon, and will provide a list of materials if anyone is interested. It picks up air from the left of the radiator, all the way down in front of the transmission, I test drove it and it is much quieter than the open filter in the engine compartment, and you don't have to hack up your car to put it in.

I'm gonna pull the whole thing off the car this weekend, and take some good hi-res pics of it, and put smaller clamps on it. I got some of the stuff at Autozone, and some at Home Depot. It was real easy to put together, and it makes quite a bit more low end torque than the open filter, plus it sounds very throaty, less high pitched wailing.

That is exactly the way I anticipated that it would be!
I plan something simular but in the sense of keeping the filter in the location behind the battery (Franken/Berk) and mod the splash pan. Make a "ram" that will be in the pressure area just below the the splash pan without being to low or very visable and then "funnel" it upto the filter. This with ensure no water intake and "force" fresh air to the filter. I really like your setup...NICE JOB!!!

Well, I'll have to pull it off the car, and take a pic with it all assembled on the ground, then it will all make sense. Where the elbow is, I have another piece of pipe about 15" long going down and to the left of the radiator, and the filter is attatched there. I have a freind at Max Rev, that will possibly duplicate the kit without all the rubber parts, I will pursue it if there is an interest.
