Intake question

How often should you replace the cone filter on an intake? I have a weapon-r hyper intake and I have had the same filter on for about 4k miles. I want to put a K&N filter because this guy at Balanced Performance told me that weapon-r filters are not that great. Thanks for the input.

That's interesting. Isn't the MonsterFlow filter based on the Weapon-R design?

PS: I heard that Weapon-R has brought a suit against MonsterFlow for patent infringement. At this point that's only a rumor, however. Has anyone else heard that?

Well just between you and me, kloogy, I took a look at a MonsterFlow filter today. I reviewed the instructions briefly and if I understood what I read correctly, it appears that the "tackifying agent" is liberally sprayed onto both the inside and outside of the filter. Now I keep coming back to the same question. Tackifying agent, by any other name, would smell like oil. In fact, Weapon-R even refers to their tackifier as "oil". And if the oil from a K&N can f*ck up a MAF, what's to prevent the oil from a MonsterFlow or Weapon-R filter from doing the same thing?

I just don't get it.

I didnt want to post it, butthats why I left the KN on... That MSFLW is OILY as all heck. I had grease all over my hands after I put it together. I sprayed it overnight with a Candy Apple red mettalic finish. It took me forever to remove all the oil on it. Now that I put the foam back on and assembled it, the oil is making the paint smear ?? Im just going to toss it, or save it for a rainy day... The KN sounds just fine to me...
