Test drove G35 -bad mistake (long)

Seats very comfy...I always struggle at bit to get the lower seat height/angle just right. Sweet exhaust note: a bit more pronounced than the Maxes when u gun it...this time they got it right.
Much, MUCH less road noise (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) than the Max....obviously they spent a lot of time here -tires also helping here -Turanzas in lieu of Potenzas.
Engine is as expected....lovely -same exact mechanicals as the Maxes' 3.5 liter and looking at a car they had up on a lift (upgrading wheels -but to very ricey ones -ugh) I saw just where this engine gets 5-10 hp more than the same engine as installed on the Maximas: way cool two-into-one exhaust with a very efficient-looking collector mid-car between the two front seats.
Also interesting was the suspension....almost every moving part except the shocks & springs is aluminum...way pretty pieces. Another reason for great ride...minimal unsprung weight.
Also advised: 6-speeds due in October; deposits being taken....going back there this week (was in wife's car when I went) for a more serious chat...we'll see

I'm guessing he was just looking, not prepared to spend the $$$, and fell in love with it.

I sure did. I'd pick the new G35 over the BMW 330... quite a price/value ratio.

I was'nt planning nor thinking about changing cars.

As far as I know, they're already discounting. Someone on the bmw forum said a dealer offered $4K off on a new G35 before the guy even started negotiating.

Hopefully the rear lights will grow on me just like my 2k max did. IMO the car is beautiful otherwise.

A pretty stripped one was for just on $30k

the Sports/Premium cars were around $33-$34k -and they had like six cars on the lot.
The one they were doing all the dealer upgrades (two-piece wheels, 245/17 tires, etc) was 38k, methinks.

They did confirm the stick would be about 800 bucks cheaper when it does arrive...

Stripped for $30k? That doesn't sound bad, so like how badly stripped we talking about? no a/c?

God, no...air, leather, standard sound

system (120 watts, six speakers, single CD player), just no power seats, no sunroof, 17 x 6.5" wide wheels in lieu of 17 x 7, no auto-dimming mirro, no heated seats, etc. Nice car nonetheless.

What dealer? Where? Six-speed in October and their taking deposits? That doesn't sound right. I know the six-speed coupe is coming in November, but I heard no six-speed in the sedan this year. Please advise, I'd like to talk to a dealer who is taking orders on a six-speed.

As for the "cheap" interior of G35... its the center console... too plasticky one... I fixed it on mine.

I personally think BMW interior on 3 series is very old. 5 series is better IMHO. (Audi is on my top pick as far as interior goes).
G35 interior is just fine in all aspect. Supple leather, good build material, soft plastic, sucky center console (which I fixed).
$4000 off sounds like a great deal! I don't think it is possible unless someone got it with all the option available (including Nismo bodykit) and some "dealer installed" wheels that cost fortune. Anyways, mine is so called close to stripped.
Ivory Pearl, Bose Audio, Sunroof, Leather. (about $31.5k MSRP.. got $500 off got it within ours of car arriving to dealer. Most of people now can expect $1000+ discount)
All the cars comes with A/C, electronic compass, remote lock keyfob, 6 disc cd-changer, etc, etc. If you get leather one, you will at least get power driver seat.

Coupe question...

Does the coup have back seats?

I know the Z does not, but I swear I read a pub that referred to its "2+2" config.

5-series interior is very outdated and actually being replaced in 2003, along with a completely redesigned 5er.
01+ 3-series interior looks very nice, especially in cars with sport pkg. Just my .02 cents.

I was reading a japanese magazine from summer 2001 and they listed the g35 as a skyline v35?

v35 eh?

The g35 looks a bit cramped at the driver seat (looking at that picture from earlier). It wouldn't surprise me the Japanese calling the next skyline v35, but I'm not sure how many would accept it. I would personally choose the R34 but then again, that's for more sport where the g35 is aiming towards the luxury side.

I drove by the Inifiniti dealer here Sunday and looked at a black one with all options and a white stripper. The black one was loaded up and even had the pricey dealer 'bling-bling' wheels. I think it was like $38K. Its just too tall, compared to the short length. I dunno, ofcourse I didn't like the 5th gen Maximas when they came out and here I am today driving one. After I looked at the car for a while I sat in mine and pondered trading. Heres why I'm not....at least for a while.

1) New cars losed SO much initially and you still owe alot. Trust me I know. Someone is buying my Prelude next weekend (80% sure) and I'm losing thousands just to get rid of it. You dont realize how much that sucks until you have to do it.

2) Its an auto only. at least for right now. It'll be slower than my Maxima and until it gets a 6spd......not for me.

3) The coupe looks tremendously better. IMO, I'd be more inclined to buy the coupe. I still like the room of a sedan, so alas, there is my problem. If anything, if I could afford it, I'd keep the Max and buy a 350Z to play with.

4) $$$$$$$$$$ fully loaded. My Maxima (a stripper nonetheless with only a sunroof as as option) went for $24K w/ a list for around $27K. I cant see how a fully loaded G35 can be $10K more!

Actually, now that i'm looking at the magazine... their not only calling it the v35, but selling it as the "Nissan Skyline V35" Surprising how long it takes cars there to reach here.

Why wouldn't they? It is just a Skyline, not the Skyline GT-R.

But the 330's interior is nicer. I think the problem is Infiniti's excessive use of the titanium looking plastic and the fact that the parking brake is foot actuated.

The titanium comes with the Sport Suspension. I think it looks ok. But the interior with the real wood trim looks sweet.

The 6-speed version of te G35 has a hand

operated e-brake, right where the Maxes' hand brake is today..saw it at the dealership on some of the digital pics the sales manager has on his PC.
Sweet-looking shift lever, too...looks about five inches tall with a plain round **** on it...

Has anybody actually found concrete evidence that this six-speed will arrive in the sedan this year? Everything I see out there is only referring to the coupe in November.

I don't know, I like the Infiniti G35. I feel it has wonderful value for its price concidering its RWD, 260ish horse power, and shares the Skyline's Japanese aftermarket.
But the BMW ewww.... I really hate those overpriced sh*t boxes.

Hey...dont flame Bimmers...if I had the

moolah I would buy another one in a heartbeat...my 540/6 was a damn sweet car...few cars come close to the overall performance of that machine. Pricey, yes but....you get your money's worth -if u can afford it
Into the subject of interiors, I'm relatively old-fashioned here, much prefer the Five series interior to that in the Three series...

'02 Orient Blue 330Ci on order.
Estimated delivery date 05/14/02
Hrmm i wonder why you would have a bad opinion of the car

The only time you need a hand e-brake is if your pulling some dumb theatrics... did you stop and think that its a rear drive car? If you want useful oversteer it's called the long skinny pedal!

Want to do a lot of power-off oversteers in your Bimmer? Thats cool if you want to show off, but why in the real world would anyone need that in a near-luxury class sedan. If you wanted performance and teenage theatrics you'd be waiting for the 280hp 6spd coupe with your precious hand brake anyway.
