shift lock thing on 2k automatic???

shift lock thing on 2k automatic???

on our 2000 maxima at the top of the console by the dash infront of the shifter there is a little thing that says shift lock. I have poped this thing out and i have no idea what the hell it does does any one know?

Holy Smoke Batman , he found our secret button that convert the batmobile to flying object!!!!

Just kidding, It's actually bypasses pressing brake pedal to release the gears... It usually for example if your illegally parked and towed, gear on neutral allow slack to scoop the car... DON'T ASK ME HOW I KNOW THAT..

And again another good reason I visit this site alot for info. No key in right door was a good eyeopener also. Now I'll have to go out and play with that damm button in the dark.

I'm a little confused. What use would the shift lock have in everyday situations. Does it lock the gear shift so it can't be shifted out of park?

to summarize the manual and corect me if im wrong its kinda a safty thing incase you break down on the higway and transmission gets stuck in gear to be able to release it to put car in nutral
